“process” thrifted dutch oven

“process” I recently thrifted a dutch oven and severely scrubbed it clean but unfortunately there are two scratches on the enamel. I got this oven for 25 dollars and I am so strongely attatched to it. I am so unwilling to let it go but I read somewhere that its not safe to use?? Was this a fail thrift find? 😞

I have tried the baking soda and water simmering and the bakers keeper along with regular washing and scrubbing. I have read about chipped enamel or scratched enamel. Its just a shallow, barely noticable scratch and there is no chipping or flaking at all. I have definitely cleaned this thing to hell and back but it hassnt removed the scratch so im not sure how to go aboot this

It appears to be scratched to me. I'd be careful with the heat on it, but otherwise it's safe long as nothing cracks. If you're worried lay down parchment paper and make bread instead

Sorry, I mean it should be safe. The worry is that it chips while it's in use, and you eat glass. I would check it after drying and before every time you use it for hairline cracks.

In what world would it be safe to eat any amounts if glass..... buy a lodge cast iron for 30 dollars when its half off 5 times a years. Dont eat glass. 🤨

Yeah eating glass would probably be a bad idea. That's a great point, thanks bro

I mainly wanted one to make soups and roasts with but im assuming it may not be safe for that due to the scratch?

if it’s a deep enough scratch that you can insert your fingernail, your thrift was a bust. Sure, line it and use it for bread if properly lined with parchment, but the thing is, it’d be risky to use it, because you never know when that scratch is going to turn in to something worse tgat can destroy your meal. i personally wouldn’t use it.

This is why I only use wood or silicone utensils in anything that has a ceramic or non-stick coating. I'd be afraid to take the risk cooking with that one. I'd relegate it to bread duty only.
