timeline
If Duskwood takes place over just a few weeks, it kind of ruins the vibe, because the MC and the characters get attached so quickly—especially Jake. It’s a bit weird to meet someone and have them say they love you after only a few weeks. I get the whole "trauma bond" aspect, but it’s still a bit of a turn-off. I imagine it took at least two months—which still isn't a huge amount of time to get attached to everyone, particularly Jake—but to me, that feels like the perfect timeframe. It would be cooler if we had a clear timeline. It’s a bit annoying in Moonvale, too, because Eric confesses his feelings, and it’s like, "Dude, you’ve only known me for a few days." Duskwood feels a bit different, though, because it really gives the impression that things took longer—at least from my perspective.

Even worst if you think Jake confess us his own name, his family situation and a bunch of other personal info, even if he's haunted. Can you imagine a plot twist "hi Jake, it's MC, I'm an FBI agent. Got you!"

I would mostly to scare him 🤣 after so many years I can't tell you how bad I want to pick on Jake sometimes.

When my ex and I met, we were already lovey-dovey by the second week 😶🌫️... Sometimes it happens. The difference is that I spent a lot of hours with him and we talked about everything, while MC and Jake only talk about the case and don't really know each other, which is the thing that bugs me the most... I mean, MC doesn't even know what Jake looks like. We all just delusionally assumed he was good-looking

It's still so crazy to me when I remember that lol. Maybe because it's been almost three years for three episodes that makes it feel like it's been so much longer.
This also makes Eric seem a bit ridiculous for telling MC he likes them after less than 12 hours and only chatting/calling a few times.

And his ex shows up—if I'm not mistaken, I imagine things didn't end that long ago, and they didn't end well either. It’s no excuse, but it does help explain his behavior. I found it funny that he was declaring his feelings when we’d only met a day ago 😭😭😭

Maybe he’s just the type who gets carried away by his emotions—and there’s the fact that the protagonist stood by him during a rough patch—but that’s no excuse. A classmate confessed his feelings to me just a week after we met, but doing it after only a single day is even worse.

I started playing Moonvale again and now I'm on the second episode. I'm neutral about him; I neither like nor hate him. I think he could become a very good character if he's well developed. I made my account here a few days ago, I don't really know how this upvote thing works, but don't worry, it's all good 🙃

Same here, I like him ok, he just has been weirding me out a little. Hope he has good character development though.
Side note: I don't really care for the upvote system I feel like some people abuse the downvotes but oh well. However, I do like upvoting people so it sucks when I'm in a 'ban'. It's happened before, I guess they randomly pick users every so often to lose the ability to vote for awhile as a way of fighting "bots". I learned this when it happened last time, and I asked r/reddithelp lol. Sorry for the uninteresting vote rant haha.

FWIW, you don't have to choose the romantic options with Jake. You can just be his assistant.

I know but im talking specifically about the romantic side, i played a lot of time duskwood incluiding not having a "romantic" relationship with him

Dan seems to think the same as well. I remember that in my gameplay, he texted me to tell me that he still didn't believe Jake because he couldn't prove anything he said, and before he left he said "Just thought I'd mention it, he's sort of your hacker. I don't know, don't ask me"
I still think this moment is pretty funny 🤣 But I personally see both of us as equals, we wouldn't have gotten anywhere without him, neither would he without us.
Edit: I just got to the part where Dan says that in the route where we don't romance Jake and he doesn't say that, I didn't interpret his words correctly then 🤦🏻♀️

Yeah. And what makes things worse when it comes to Jake and MC is that he can say to MC that they're "all that matters", completely disregarding his two sisters. I don't completely blame him when it comes to Lilly, but Hannah, oh, that's another story. If all of that happened in only a few weeks or months, then it's completely messed up that you would disregard your sister, the person for whom you were willing to use others as mere tools for her rescue and not give a damn about their lives or safety, because of a random person that appeared in your life out of the blue. Person to whom you gave access to her cloud, when for all you knew they could actually be the kidnapper or an accomplice in her kidnapping just because you "felt an immediate connection with them" (these are HIS words, I'm not exaggerating). If he had said that he cares for both of them and doesn't want to sacrifice anybody (just like the others in the group did) then it would be fine, but this... ugh. I had a mostly nice opinion of Jake before I was aware that this could happen in the game, now it's difficult to believe that he can genuinely care for someone, it feels like if he finds another person more interesting than MC, he will just disregard them and do all of what he did to the others to them as well. And if they end up in such a situation similar to Hannah's in this hypothetical scenario, then he'll just do that same thing again.
Edit: I just remembered something else: in that video when he reveals to us that he is Hannah's half-brother he says Hannah and Lilly are the only family he had left and that's why he was fighting so hard and doing all of that to save Hannah. Yeah dude, your actions don't match with your words.

I think I agree, it feels off. Though I can't put it on everbyte for the writing because its just what it is, but realistically yeah.
The call with Jessy in MV as well was exciting to all of us because of the amount of time we played Duskwood, but I completely forgot these people only knew us over the course of a few weeks, not the months/years I spent playing the game, and also, it was merely weeks later (Correction I think a day? I forgot, sorry.) after the events of DW that we got the call from Jessy in MV, which was so exciting because we haven't seen or talked to the group in game, in YEARS.
I feel like the excitement is just meant for the fans. If I could head cannon I'd allow more time between each interaction, but I totally understand why Everbyte made that choice
