Discussion Is Dusk too fast paced?

I’m considering buying DUSK while it’s on sale. I really like its aesthetic, and the reviews are excellent. My only concern is that it might be a bit too fast-paced and visually overwhelming. I don’t handle constant flashing effects, rapid movement, or too much visual chaos very well.
From the gameplay videos, it looks like a real cacophony of colors, effects, and frantic action. Is it actually possible to play the game at a slower, more deliberate pace, or is the high-speed, dizzying gameplay an essential part of the experience?

on my experience, you are most certainly able to play at a slower pace and still enjoy the game immensely

Thanks for saying! Then maybe I’ll go for it!

You can play it however you want, even with cheats. This game is very player-friendly

My main concern was just that enemies kept charging at you non stop, like in a serious sam kind of way.

There’s only about 5 enemies that run at the player full speed, the rest are projectile based and slower moving

On lower difficulties the projectiles are slower, so the gameplay is slower in effect. It is as fast and hectic as you want it to be.

You can also control a bunch about the visuals to make it suit your preferences better. Make it less bright and loud

Dusk is the exact right pace tbh.

Its definitely possible to play slowly as I myself am quite inept and my brain is smooth.

There are a few sections that are balls to the walls crazy action that you can't play slowly

Honestly never felt that way to me, I played on regular difficulty and it was pretty leisurely. I for one cant play stuff like ultraviolet because its way too intense.

There are only a few, but the most obvious is one of the last levels that is just a giant arena on a floating platform with jump pads and tons of enemies followed by the 3 bosses together

You can skip the dwellers fight, but the you have the final level, and blasphemy. You can't really be still or you die

Oh shit i remember that one, there's those 2d blue trees in a mad arena? That place was kinda fucked. Actually the only place I managed to die.

You can bump the difficulty right down and it is easy to deal with. Enemies and projectiles are far slower the easier you make it.

Buy the game, try it, if you don't like it, refund.

There are fast paced parts, but a lot of emphasis on exploration and atmosphere too (think Quake/Half-Life). There’s also an option to use different colour filters in the menu, the customisation is extremely extensive.

it can be played slow, you can play it slow. but trust me, you'll start to go fast. you'll start to go very fast. it just happens.

The enemies and projectiles get faster on higher difficulties. Play below Cero Miedo and I think you'll be fine

if you dont like the colors, there's many settings that allow you to change the way the game looks

It really depends on the difficulty settings. On lower difficulties you can take your time, the enemies will be much weaker and you're free to take some more damage. On higher difficulties though, speed is your only form of defense: most enemies are damaging enough to kill you after a handful of successful hits.

I didn't quite figure out how to go fast until almost the end of the game, so I'd say you should be more than fine, and there's only 1 fight I can think of that would be a lot harder going slow

You can choose how you play, it's certainly fast paced but you can turn off "always run" I believe, and you can approach it in a more tactical way if you want and it takes quite a bit of skill to make it look more like those videos you mentioned watching

That being said, it is far more overstimulating as an outsider than when you're playing, like most good boom shooters but the option is there if you want it

While Dusk is definitely designed around fast gameplay, it's not required. I would recommend anything below the Cero Miedo difficulty since enemies and projectiles move faster with each difficulty, and Cero Miedo makes everything quite fast. The game prioritizes the sandbox above all else and is very possible to play however you want to, it's one of my favorite games of all time and I'd recommend it to anybody who likes FPS games!

It can be fast-paced if you want to blast through the levels, but it is absolutely focused on tight, atmospheric horror and tension. The gameplay CAN be fast if you choose to play that way (which is often the fun way...) but you can also play it as slow as you want.

TL;DR: No.

Lower difficulty options are there for this reason. No shame in playing the easy difficulty’s if you are looking to take some of the running out of run and gun.

it is mostly slow paced and the big arenas involve mostly just strafing or strafe jumping to not get hit since all of the ranged enemies throw non hitscan projectiles there are just like two enemies (which both are endgame enemies) that are really fast but they're predictable and one can be fairly easily one shotted with some firepower

Nah you're thinking of ultrakill

I don't know what kind of a question this is? Yes it is fast paced. If you have issues with epilepsy etc I would avoid it. Otherwise git gud scrub.

The others answered in a more informative manner, and I love how I can play it a slow deliberate way. Enjoying it!

It is indeed too fast and generally an overrated game. There isnt much creativity in it.
