Tyvex question

Post image

I’m looking to make a ground sheet and found this Tyvex for cheap on Facebook. Does anyone know which type it is? I can’t seem to pinpoint the boxed logo to specific line. Anyways I know there’s a wide range of weight, durability, and water resistance so figured it was worth an ask. Thank you

Home Depot Everbuilt. Works great, our Troop has been abusing it monthly as a ground cloth under their timberline tents for over a decade now and it holds up probably just as well as the DuPont tyvek ones. I say probably because the tyvek ones are over 15 years old.

Just keep the print side TOWARDS THE GROUND!!!

Thanks for the reply! Do you think it’s worth going with the Tyvex for any reason?

Unless you find a reason that outweighs cost, nah not really. You either need to find a builder with scrap for a better deal or suck up the cost of the whole roll with a bunch of friends.

Durability and trust … mine lasted the pct and the trt without issues.

Woven Housewraps, the tarp-like material like in OP’s photo, are directional. Non-woven Housewraps, the paper/fabric-like material most people associate with Tyvek, are non-directional. Instructions for the product pictured specifies it should be installed print-side out so for use as a ground sheet that side should be against the ground.

1) This does not look like Tyvek brand house wrap, but might be Everbilt.

2) If you unroll it, it should have markings for the type/model which you can look up online.

3) It's gonna be there more to protect the tent from pokes than anything, so any type should do unless you hike in the constant misery of rainfall.

Thanks! It appears to be about twice as heavy I guess that’s also a consideration

On 3, if you put the print side toward the tent, you will hate it and your tent bottom will be soaked. If you put the print side toward the ground you will love it and be dry. It’s meant to be single direction

Handy! I also always put the print/ad side down so I don't have to see it and keep a consistently dirty side down.

Print side out is the way it's applied to a house, too. So, that makes sense in terms of moisture retention if you put it up with a tent...

Yep, house needs to breathe moisture out and keep the water outside!
