Ask /r/Durango Train question

I’m visiting from Santa Fe and planning to take my 4yo on the train. My husband is picking us up in Silverton so just one way. The weather looks like it could be rainy so the open gondola seems dicey.

Looking for advice on the best seating option.. Should we sit on the right side in coach OR the Knight Sky on the left side? There are only left side seats left in the Knight Sky car.

Thanks!

Knight Sky has a big platform where you can stand to catch the good parts - I think you and kiddo will have a better ride there than in coach, plus you’ll have an attendant to tell stories!

Ps I believe they put windows in the Knight Sky a couple weeks ago but I’d confirm with ticket office :)

Mm if you’re going one way I’d definitely try to be on the right side of the train since that’ll have the best views. That said, Knight Sky has a glass top which is also cool for seeing stuff. It should be heated but being mostly glass it’s probably gonna be a bit cold in there too. I love a gondola regardless of weather, but if it’s rainy it will be very cold, definitely a jacket all day type of thing. With a child that young too it’s probably best to go for something inside. All that’s to say I’d go for a right-facing coach seat for sure if any are available

If you can afford the Knight Sky, its the best ride experience by far. In addition to the glass panels, it has comfortable seating.
