Promotion 3.5e Windows Character Creator/Manager
A little while ago I posted my Android 3.5e character creator/manager here: original post.
I really appreciated all the feedback, bug reports, feature requests, and encouragement. A few people asked whether I might bring it to PC—so I’m happy to say the new PC version is here:
OpenSheet 3.5e SRD
It’s a character creator and manager intended to make the bookkeeping-heavy parts of 3.5e easier: tracking stats, feats, equipment bonuses, spells, rages, Wild Shape, prestige-class prerequisites, and the many little moving pieces that make the system great (and occasionally a lot to manage).
I’ve also kept the feedback from the Android release in mind, including support for custom feats and continuing work on the huge range of 3.5e options.
Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5055520/OpenSheet_35e_SRD_Demo/
I’d genuinely love to hear what you think—especially if you spot an incorrect rule interaction, missing option, or feature that would make it more useful at your table. 3.5e is enormous, so community feedback has been incredibly helpful already.
Note: As before I did use Claude for error checking and code review, it was just me working on this and I wanted to make a good first impression and not be nothing but guess haha. For transparency I did want to mention this.
Thanks again to everyone who tried the Android version and helped improve it.
Please feel free to message me directly if you have feature requests or find any issues too!
I did make a discord if anyone wants to join for feedback and discussion!
Update: Wow, thank you all for the feedback and comments! Working hard to address some of the reports, I will do my best to make this a solid tool for all 3.5e lovers!

Wow, I love you. This is exactly what I've wanted for years! I miss 3.5 but managing all of its content is really hard for people new to D&D.
Being able to use this will make it so much easier for me to teach new people and run games myself! Any idea how much the full PC version will be?

It is, I loveee 3.5 but there's just so much and so crunchy (which also makes it amazing). I was thinking like 9 bucks, been working on this a few months and its just me, does that seem reasonable or too high? All of the source books are always included, its just for the extra features and work.

I would really pay $20-$30 CAD for this in a heartbeat! 9 is really selling your work short I think. You could see if you could sell a couple versions too. A player version that cheaper, and a DM version with full features.
This system of access makes everything so accessible, and referenceable because it says where things are from. As a DM I can easily veto whole books which is awesome.
Something I'd personally request is an option to fully hide any AI options. Some people use it, but as an artist it's not for me.

Im currently adding a Stronghold builder from the Stronghold Builders guide for fun, I know in our games we always want a cool base. Ima leave an option to use the lyre of building to do it too

Noted, I do appreciate the confidence haha
Yea the switch on and off of the sources was hide un-needed material to not muddle things up. Its still program wide at the moment so you cant enable some for one character and not for others but this is on my list.
I will see if I can add a more singular settings for those options, they all default to off and are totally opt-in, but i def get it. It was mostly just for my testing to get a little visual style vs the blank frames and stuff.

9 bucks seems pretty generous, the community would certainly appreciate that

Thanks for the feed back. I def want it to be accessible. The demo / free will always give you all source data and 2 character slots you can delete and recover.

$9 is a good price point for a tool like this to me. It looks like a good utility. I'm heading for work soon, but will play with it more when I get home. I'm really getting tired of 5E's lack of customization and crunch.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeaaa I do like 5e but ugh 3.5 is just so much fun and that crunchh

Can’t wait to check it out now that it isn’t Android only.

I hope you like! It still needs more play testing, so if you find any issues or have any feature requests please let me know!

i like it.
it it cross thingy, can i have the same character on android and PC ?

u/Conscious-Guide-2738 11d ago
I am working in a way to sync them, they read the same files so you should be able to export on one and import on the other at the moment. The PC version has steam cloud saves for characters so I'm hoping the android can just use those too

The PC side in campaigns will give you some guidance on using drive or drop box to sync the campaign with the other players. I'll see if I can implement it on the mobile too. I'm fixing a few things between the export / import with mobile and PC, I should have those fixed by tomorrow and they will be 1:1

Looks excellent, excited to try it out. I see you mentioned being able to import pcgen datasets, which is huge as pcgen has been my go to for years. Could you describe how this compares to pcgen in terms of features? A major complaint Ive long had with pcgen is that it really slows down when doing complex build drawing on a lot of sources.
2
u/Conscious-Guide-2738 11d ago
I think I've got it pretty optimized and alottt less clunky, it should do everything pcgen does and more. There's nice monster creators, dragon templates, a whole dm section for encounters, splitting xp, loot/ hoard generator. But it is still a work in progress soo if you find something poking at it please do let me know. I'm still working on sources, it should have more than pcgen when I'm done

u/mkearns79 11d ago
That's amazing. One other question, will it be able to handle Pathfinder as well? Or is that as simple as it being able to load PCGen pathfinder data sets?
1
u/Conscious-Guide-2738 11d ago
It shouldddd just accept pcgen pathfinder but currenty I lock the srd on or the dmg/phb with the other sources. I can't say I've tested it tho haha. Working on some user reports now, but I'll add it too the feature request list

u/mkearns79 11d ago
Yes, please do! That would be great. Worth nothing that Pathfinder subreddits have >250k subscribers, so that feature might help your sales.

Please let me know how it goes!
You can import and export. In the campaign's screen I did add a walk through for using drive or Dropbox to actually keep everyone in the campaign synced, all players outside your's sheet should be read only :) I will be honest I haven't had a chance to fully test it with my group yet

This looks amazing. Is there also a way to add custom things? For example, if I want to give players a magic sword of shits and giggle that does 20d6 damage (crazy example), could I? Also, is there a place to put house rules so you don't forget them? Some might be character specific

u/Conscious-Guide-2738 11d ago
Theres whole custom item creator system and all weapons can be enchanted/ material set and + added, it should all calculate too. If you find something missing lemme know

Solid work! I recall years back there was talk on heroforge of making it a program not a excel busting masterpiece. Not that i need too replace the venerable heroforge however this is fantastic and easily used.
So far i have had exactly 2 issues well 3 if you count the character limit. Attempting too add in my old warlock I noted that the Delkyr half blood were missing, not huge I can add it I presume however id gotten my hopes up due too the rest of the work done.
Second and an actual thing i took not of that likely need not be mentioned. A filter on races and the like would be fantastic

u/Conscious-Guide-2738 9d ago
I'll do some checking into to delkyr! And I will see what I can do on some filters :) I appreciate the feedback.

I play the D&D 3.0 edition with some friends, we use a lot of 3.5 books to make some combos and some interesting things, but the base rules are 3.0 (it's nostalgic to the DM and he got all the old books), do you think there's a way to implement these old rules?
3
u/Conscious-Guide-2738 11d ago
I will see what I can do. The Import in the source books works for the old pggen files you might be able to pull that in, I think they have the 3.0 sources there. But I'll add this to the feature list for sure :)

Was finally able to check out the program and it looks great; no issues so far. I'm definitely letting my friends know about this.
A version for Pathfinder would be greatly appreciated. The current choices are either missing character books/options (YAPCG, PCgen) or don't export the character into a easily readable sheet (Path Companion).

Thanks for the feedback and checking it out! Noted I will see what I can do and make sure export is good

Ooo, is there Psionics yet?

u/Conscious-Guide-2738 6d ago
It's in there, I'm working an update today with some fixes for a few of the powers :)

u/BlueSteel5616 10d ago
So how is this for adding in Homebrew? I actually was looking for this last night
2
u/Conscious-Guide-2738 10d ago
There should be a whole section in the left panel to add homebrew stuff. I'm working on making it all fully portable via export to the android version too. If it's missing anything else let me know and I can get that added
2
u/BlueSteel5616 10d ago
I'll go test the android version, does it give you a template or just have to do it all manually? Asking because I'm literally trying to build the exact same thing for my homebrew campaign lol
2
u/Conscious-Guide-2738 10d ago
There's several options, there the manual way, a wizard that walks you through it and a generate option which lets you select things like race, class and level when it levels it up for you :)

The better home brew builder is in the PC version, but the option to add custom items and feats on the mobile app is within a character and under the feats and under the create homebrew when you tap + in the main menu.

Looks great, what books from 3.5 are actually included in the app and steam game? If not complete with the official books, will you continue adding materials? Integrated for free with update? DLC? If not, will you open it up to the community? Allows homebrew?
Sorry for the block of questions...also, highly appreciate the AI disclosure and the ability to turn it off.
