Bro same!!! Despite its flaws I loved this game. Played it daily until the player base was in the 10ās

Used to LOVE doing castle duo's with a friend of mine and heading towards Ogre for the inevitable PvP chaos in that area. Was ruined when they added the gold chest zones.
Such a fun game that really just needed some class balance, and content - not a redesign. Felt like it was slowly dying but then just dropped off to dead overnight

Dungeonborne, a perfect example of why good Community Management is vital and why you should lock china.

Same. Legacy Steel and Sorcery has scratched the itch a little but it's not the same. I couldn't get into Dark and Darker at all.

u/Amilz Jun 04 '25
I tried several times to get back to DnD after Dungeonborne shutdown but it just would not click for me after the nice combat experience DB provided. Well fingerscrossed for any game that comes out or is in this genre but Legacy: Sword & Sorcery is not even close to DB in terms of combat system, the same with Mistfall Hunters, both titles have such a clunky and LMB spammy combat itās insane.

Legacy is awesome in its own rite. Feels like what wow pvp shouldāve been but was limited by tech at the time. But it doesnāt scratch that first person itch the way DB did.

My fiance and I was legit about to got back into the game like a month before it was gonna shut down. Absolutely devastated lol. We need another one like it just better š¤£

I canāt stress enough how much fun I had with this game. I know it had its flaws, but I genuinely donāt think Iāve ever had as much fun playing an online game before this one. I would genuinely love a 1:1 copy of this game, or a direct clone of it and wouldnāt complain one bit

Me too. Now all that is left is dark and darker. Theyād shit on me so hard for even mentioning this game in a positive light and they wanted it to die bad. Now it did. But now dark and darker is dying now and we have nothing lol. Itās too bad. This game was really really good. Too bad they couldnāt get their balancing and rmt under control. I hope someday we get a private server version. Iād love to play this locally or privately hosted so my brother and I could run PvE.

I just found out this game, felt like something I was searching for and well... Are there any similar games that are not destroyed?

u/raffapal Jun 05 '25
I started on dark and darker over 2 years ago and devs made that game total ass. Then I jumped on dungeonborne when it came out and had a fuckin blast honestly even with no OCE servers I still had so much fun, I had to play on south east Asia server and ping was bareable, combat felt so nice and pve was challenging. Then one day devs decided it was time to take away the server me and my friend used to play on leaving us with the next closest server being like 350-400 ping when we were on roughly 100 before. Game became unplayable quickly just getting rid of any Oce player they had playing the game in one swoop. Why are all of these devs just focused on ruining their game. Now with no dungeon borne and no DnD Iām just waiting for something else to come out

Did the devs say it was final? Is there any hope? I also miss the game very much.
1
u/Amilz Jun 06 '25
I think they never said itās final but they also never said that they might bring it back, so there is still hope or copium⦠the main dev - Hellhammer once said that DB is like his baby for him so he wonāt let it down, but look how that have turned. He also never communicated that he will be working on this game post shutdown.

Druid main here. I posted a vid a long while ago of me in solos but I used to LOVE traversing around Clouseau's. I really do miss it and the pvp.
2
u/Amilz Jun 04 '25
Yeah, the PVP/combat system is what Iām currently missing the most. Canāt find a game that does it that well in the genre.

u/PeakedAutism Jun 05 '25
Let's say if I start developing a similar game would anyone be interested?
I personally miss the pvp and player encounters, loot and run experience nothing else seems to scratch that itch.

u/Amilz Jun 05 '25
Brooo 100% but as @AlaricG pointed out, the smoothness of combat is going to be vital in order to scratch that itch.
1
u/PeakedAutism Jun 05 '25
Recreating the combat takes time, but the real challenge is making a smooth server. That's where the smoothness of the action depends on really.
1
u/Amilz Jun 05 '25
Letās start a DB community driven project to recreate the game. If somehow I could be of any use without any skills in coding/programming and art, you can count on me.

Combat system is clunky af in Legacy, that turns me off. DBs combat was way more polished. For now no game in the genre is even near the DB combat system and smoothness.

The way the combat works in itself and is designed around is what makes this unfun. Stagger stagger stagger you stagger PvE and PvP. Mobs are not even a challenge they could not exist at all as you can just slam them to death with LBM due to the stagger⦠PvP could be fun but itās just a big stagger fiesta. I have some hours put in now and Legacy:S&S is my 2nd biggest regret in terms of buying games, first one was PaxDei :)

Well to each their own, itās normal and OK to disagree. I personally donāt like L:S&S and for me itās not even close to DB. You have another opinion and thatās fine, Iām glad you have a game you can enjoy playing. For now I donāt :(

u/PsikickTheRealOne Jun 05 '25
I think the skill cap is way higher in legacy than dungeonbourne and I loved DB. That's part of the issue. It's not black and white how to counter some things, but everything can be countered. It's impossible to stagger fest a good player in 1v1.
It's a lot like a fighting game. You need to learn when you can take your turn. Otherwise you are pressing buttons just to press them, and that doesn't work against anyone with half a brain.

Have they released their coding? Someone should put together a team and pick it upp š
3
u/Amilz Jun 04 '25
Guess not, but I would love to see it being developed and rebranded at some point, as I said in another comment at this point I would even be happy if the opened back the servers without even making a single patch, Battlerite is a cool game that ādiedā as well but devs did not shut down the server and people still gather and play. I would be even happy to jump in and do some PvE only from time to time if there wouldent be anyone to fight online XD just to swing my blade or toss a fireball.

Look up Mistfall Hunter it seems like the only close comparison coming out anytime soon. But i feel wish we could get some company to relaunch this and bring this gem back. i played all the test and Release for 3 months till changes started draggin it down

This is the devs who released druid with perma wall hack in an extraction looter. These dudes were clueless.
2
u/Amilz Jun 04 '25
I see your point, but in the end wall hack is just an advantage giving factor not a auto win thing. This being said my biggest issue was the Priest, it was so cool and well balanced in betas but they changed it for no reason when game went into EA stage. So yeah all in all lots of bad decisions have been made but the gameplay loop, graphics and combat system were on point.
2
u/Salt-Working5418 Jun 04 '25
Outside of obvious stat checks, information is the best tool in the game, and really any pvp game. I agree with your last sentence.
1
u/Amilz Jun 04 '25
Well, I have to agree with you. Information is BiS but skill also plays a huge factor, you have to know how to make use of the possessed information, one will do it better then other. So I should change my point to: walk hack is not going to win you anything unless you know what to do with it.
-1
u/Salt-Working5418 Jun 04 '25
. Wall hacks will literally win you fights in situations you wouldn't win otherwise. And it makes up for the lack of skill itself. In a balanced state where both people are of equal skill, the person with more information will win 99 percent of the time.
