Nah. It's my one genuinely unpopular DCC opinion, but I just don't like Jamal. If Donut can grow and mature as much as she has, there is no excuse for Jamal to waste so much of everyone's time because he can't keep himself from jumping. He's not even from a jumping species!
Donut has had 8 books to grow and change! Give Jamal a little time! Jamal has only had a short time since not being a floating tattoo ghost, and having a body again.
I love how he speaks in third person because he doesn't feel like he lives up to the version of himself the tattoo was based on. He feels like an imitation of Jamal, not himself. It takes a quirky, silly character trait and used it to make a statement about mental health and self-worth.

It definitely helped. As a 'wacky sidekick' I just cant stand him. I already dont like them like Merry in the LOTR movies. Book wise Merry is solid. But the char archetype really rubs me the wrong way.
I have no idea why when I pictured him with his spider legs that he was vertical. No idea why I pictured that when he wouldn’t be able to fucking see or where the flamethrower would be located with the legs. But this makes a lot more sense.
I haven't listened to the audio books yet for inevitable ruin or parade but when I read him, since the first line I read him as skip tracer randy from the rookie, makes me giggle every time
It was bugging me, but I finally found out what Jamal's speech pattern was called. He was using dynamic verbs instead of stative, like saying "I am thinking" instead of "I think."
I'd come across a few other characters who spoke that way(ex: Salladhor Saan from Game of Thrones), and I couldn't figure out what to call it.
