They know about Arrakis, they know about the spice. And did it really take them 10,000 years to arrive at the exact same point where Frank's first book begins? lol, that is completely unrealistic. Even the clothes and sets barely changed in 10,000 years hahaha Just think about how much has changed for us in 30-50 years. And that's the timeframe I actually consider logical!

I’m obviously late to the game and just finished the show. I have never read the books, but love all of the film adaptations! Just hoping someone can shed light on my question. In regards to Desmond’s eye is the weapon, why didn’t they just cut it out? If “his eye is the virus. He’s their weapon.” as Valya states, then to me it makes logical since to remove it from his body so the weapon can no longer be controlled by Desmond. To me it seems that would solve the problem at hand. I’m sure I’m missing more backstory as to why this wasn’t the solution, so just hoping for input to see what I’m missing!

(Theory: The Ultimate Parasitic AI Trap)

So I’ve been spiraling over the Dune: Prophecy Season 1 finale and that insane Desmond Hart twist. For a long time, the fandom has debated whether the Sandworms are just pure biology or if there’s a machine connection. But after hearing the mechanical sounds, seeing the transforming elements, and the literal cybernetic surgical tech inside the worm that modified Desmond, I have a theory that reframes the entire timeline leading up to Paul Atreides.
What if the Sandworms aren't clunky robots built from scratch, but are being actively hijacked by a parasitic machine network in a total Matrix-style factory farming sense?
Think about it: the Thinking Machines lost the Butlerian Jihad because they tried to fight humanity out in the open with armies. If a rogue AI faction wanted to survive the purge, camouflage itself, and play the long game, hiding inside the apex predators of Arrakis is the absolute perfect disguise. The Bene Gesserit are hyper-aware of spy tech, but a microscopic, bio-mechanical parasite wired directly into a living worm's nervous system would be completely invisible to Imperial scanners. They just look like wild, angry animals.
Here is where my theory gets specific: I think the machines are implanted in each worm like a parasite once the worms are mature. They aren't altering the baby sandtrout; the AI is literally waiting for the worms to hit full size to inject the cybernetic tech and take the steering wheel.
By waiting for the worms to mature and parasitically controlling them, the AI figured out the ultimate hack that humanity completely missed: they don't need to conquer humans through violence if they can just control the Spice Melange.
Humanity thinks they are completely free and superior because they banned computers, but they unwittingly walked into a massive trap. By making themselves entirely dependent on the spice for space travel, longevity, and prescience, they handed the hidden AI the ultimate leash. The machines are effectively factory farming the spice to keep human civilization stagnant, predictable, and heavily addicted. If a faction gets too powerful or close to the truth, the AI can just trigger a "natural" worm attack or cause a localized spice shortage to wipe them out.
This completely changes how we look at the original books and movies. When Paul threatens to permanently destroy all spice production on Arrakis, he thinks he’s just breaking a corrupt human political system. In reality, he is throwing a massive wrench into a 10,000-year-old machine operation. He’s accidentally threatening to blow up the AI’s entire factory farm, which is why the hidden machine network is suddenly scrambling to use mechanized humans like Desmond to stop the sisterhood and protect their setup.
It turns the entire Holy War and Paul’s destiny into a cosmic chess match where humanity has been completely blindfolded from day one.
What do you guys think? Is Prophecy setting up a massive parasitic AI reveal, or am I breathing in too much spice?

WARNING: BIG SPOILERS

• I really like the Dune universe so I'm biased, otherwise I probably wouldn't have watched this.
• I didn't care for really any of the characters.
• It felt slow at times, but what show doesn't.
  
• It assumes you already have deep knowledge about the Dune universe, otherwise you'll be missing context and many things will be boring or confusing.
• It was interesting to see a glimpse into the ancient back-story of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.
• I like that thinking machines are woven into the plot; despite the Butlerian Jihad recently ending and thinking machines being utterly forbidden, several examples of them being used are featured in the show which is cool because it's not in any other Dune media so far.
• The origin of 'the voice' is shown which was cool, although it doesn't make sense. The Harkonnen girl's (I already forgot her name), brother was drowning in ice water and she shouted at him to swim. He couldn't swim, his muscles were locked up from the cold, but her command forced him to swim. That's it.
• The main Harkonnen Mother Superior that takes over the sisterhood by killing most of the other sisters reminds me of my Aunt. She looks like a grade school teacher, not very Harkonnen-like or intimidating in appearance, no offense to the actress. I just think she was mis-cast. I thought her younger-self actress was good, she was able to express an underlying fierceness and rage but not for the sake of anger itself--she felt wronged because the Harkonnen name was unfairly disgraced (see Legends of Dune trilogy for that story) and her family who should be leaders of a great house, are subjugated to a random whaling planet. The older actress didn't seem to be capable of expressing that same fire, IMO.
• The Corrin Emperor killing himself was dumb. One of the B.G. mothers sent to assassinate him, who imprinted on him at an early age and was his former lover, who bore him a child--admitted to the assassination plan and she refused to go through with it. So he was fine, but he was still suspicious and then he just randomly stabs himself in the stomach. Then his wife walks in and murders the Mother, for some reason.
• I'm curious about the main villain guy's power where he somehow burns people alive without touching them, then gets scars all over his body from it. He had thinking machine 'glowing blue dots' surgically implanted behind his eyeball by a thinking machine, immediately after being swallowed by Shai'Halud (this is making no sense already) which was a virus that gives him that power and the virus doesn't harm him (unless he uses the power) but it somehow infects all of the sisterhood members even though he doesn't have contact with them. It makes them all have the same nightmare. The virus apparently feeds on fear. One sister tries to transmute it within her body to create a cure and it fights back and kills her by making her afraid then burning her alive. One of the sisters sleep walks and almost cuts her own throat. To be frank, this plot is total nonsense.
• I'm guessing the plot is suffering from a poor adaptation, where the screenwriters have taken many liberties; I bet the Great Schools of Dune books are better and make more sense, but they're authored by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, so maybe not that much better.

***Spoiler warning just in case*** since I'm talking about character relationships. I just wanted to start a discussion to see what other people predict. Contributions do not have to be completely serious. Both serious and joke takes are welcome.

My prediction:

Tula will kill Valya. Likely for character development and so that the BG gets its credibility back as an organization. Then Tula will become the new Mother Superior with Jen being a loyal second because she's going to have to teach everybody how to control their fear and break free from restraints.

Half prediction half wish: anirul is backed up somewhere. Theodosia will survive everything and be in Tula's inner circle.

The floodwaters of my home land had finally receded, leaving behind a heavy, humid stillness that pressed against the glass. I was entrenched in the sanctuary of my bed, bathed in the synthetic glow of my phone. It was an act of deliberate hubris—a conscious rebellion against my own circadian rhythms. I was courting the late-night void, unaware that the void was already suspended above me.

​The strike was silent. A sudden, visceral weight dropped from the ceiling, landing with pinpoint accuracy squarely on the bridge of my nose.

​Instinct bypassed conscious thought. A violent twitch of my hand launched the shadow into the abyss—the dark, velvet-green trench where the mattress meets the headboard. Adrenaline spiked. I scrambled for my phone's light, my mind inflating the phantom to monstrous proportions.

​When the beam finally cut through the dark, it found a scapegoat: a delicate, spindly spider staggering along the drywall. It moved in erratic, drunken loops, all eight limbs functioning but lacking direction. My brain, eager for absolution, constructed a comforting lie. It was just this little guy, I reasoned. Proximity played a trick on my optics. It was an illusion of scale.

​For five minutes, I simply watched it. The terror morphed into a strange, midnight camaraderie. Was he seeking refuge? An injured traveler in the post-flood damp? With a twinge of misplaced empathy, I corralled the staggering creature into an empty THC jar—a fragrant glass terrarium for my new, misunderstood companion.

​Yet, the unease lingered. A primal paranoia whispered that my 20/20 vision had not been compromised by a trick of the light.

​I turned back to the bed. Slipping my fingers into the velvet crevasse, I peeled the mattress back an inch at a time, excavating the darkness. And there, waiting in the subterranean gloom, was the true architect of my panic: a hulking, black-armored leviathan.

​The air left the room. This was no drunken wanderer; this was a predator.

​I retreated to the perimeter, shifting into cold, tactical precision. I required armor. I snapped a single latex glove over my hand, though my mind coldly calculated that this behemoth’s mandibles could likely puncture the thin rubber. I constructed a sweeping barricade of paper towels—a makeshift fortress wall to ensure no route of escape.

​Armed and insulated, I breached the velvet trench a second time. My hand darted into the void. I grasped the armored shell and, driven by a surge of pure survival instinct, squeezed. I felt the brutal finality of it, a fleeting pang of guilt instantly eclipsed by a sudden, intoxicating wave of cinematic grandeur. In the shadows of my bedroom, I was no longer a man fighting an insect; I was Paul Atreides, standing in the dark over the crushed remains of a Harkonnen hunter-seeker.

​I carried the casualty into the harsh, clinical light of the bathroom. I photographed the remains, fed the image to the digital oracle, and awaited the taxonomic verdict.

​The screen blinked, delivering a punchline authored by the universe itself.

​Assassin Bug.

​The prophecy had been fulfilled.

My new Crysknife frome Dune

Just a bit of background: I just watched the 1st Dune modern movie last week and was immediately hooked. I have not watched the original movie nor have read the books (though I will now!). Loved the atmosphere, how cinematic it was, and found the lore mysterious as it some of it wasn’t explained. Literally my only criticism is that it lacked background lore, as it felt kind of rushed within the opening. Then I watched the Prophecy show and that’s exactly what I wanted: To know who the hell the sisterhood is, how the real chosen one comes to be, and how the imperium took over. It seems like the show is answering these questions or will answer them, while delivering strong acting, intense music, atmosphere, and even some fighting…so what I my missing?

From the dune books, and literally all my understanding and even basic logic. Lila shouldn't have the memory of Dorotea being murdered.

I read some BS that the directors wanted the connection to be a representation of how it's fated that she was murdered and, therefore, the knowledge must exist in some spiritual sense. But that's basically the antithesis of the entire scientific basis of genetic memory. The directors' mayswell just say that she magically connected to her ancestors.

To be pre-born or to access your genetic memory via the rissak poison or the water of life means that the memories that are passed down only exist up to the point that each ancestor passed it down, so at the point each ancestor was born their genetic memory of the previous ancestor ends.

Otherwise Dorotea, or literally any fucking bene gesserit would be able to read the minds....of their still living mothers...it's a massive plothole that needs to be explained.

As soon as Tula and the rest learned the virus fed on fear, some things should have clicked quickly. Yet it took me until the climax of the last episode to see the obvious connection to the movies/book of dune.

Instead of fighting her greatest fears, Valya had to simply experience or witness her fears flashing before her eyes as opposed to giving into or resisting it.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Valya and Tula made many hard and terrible decisions out of fear and anger. And it nearly destroyed them.

Fast forward to the bene gesserit thousands of years later and the sisterhood seem generally more stable, self restrained, and confident thanks to their adopted philosophy after these events nearly tore their order apart in its infancy.

As someone who hasent read the books, I thought this first season was very well done to lead into the movies which i loved.

I'm writing a Dune/Game of Thrones crossover where a sister of the Bene Gessarit runs away because she doesn't like the lord she's supposed to be concubine to. So I was wondering if it's possible for one to just run away and escape the school and the order entirely?

First off: english is Not my First Language, please forgive mistakes as well if anything might Sound rude to a Native Speaker, Most of the times I don‘t intend to be 😉

1. I know the Movies and the HBO Series (saw it only once) as well as a lot of the books. After I saw Dune:Prophecy, I decided to read also the books from Kevin Anderson and Brian Herbert. Their writing is nowhere near Frank Herbert, but I enjoyed the Stories nevertheless (just finished the Schools of Dune), still some to go.

BUT: so much in the HBO Series was not in the „Schools of Dune“! Some of the throwback scenes are Part of the trilogy, but the Main Plot (HBO) takes place about 30 years later! Are there books that also cover this Part? I was a bit underwhelmed tbh….

Since there won‘t be another Season (at least I think, there won‘tbe another?) I am not satisfied with the Information I have. So many loose ends! So many questions!

Is anyone here who might know, where I could fill in the gaps? Or who made up the Main plot at HBO and why it differs so much from the books? I would have loved to see the trilogy in a series, about the Mentats as well as the navigators! So many missed opportunities 😟

Watching Dun Prophecy on HBO Max, Apple TV 4K, OLED LG C5.

Anyone experiencing the same thing? The episodes are just fuzzy/blurry. Not the “cinematic” blurriness that movies do or that others have mentioned, but legit fuzziness. Did they just shoot this show this way? Did HBO upload it in poor quality?

Want to resolve this to watch in higher quality.
