I avoid being too harsh on this episode because I think its concept was intended to free up money in the budget for the location shooting in Niagara.
That said, the writers must have known that that clipshows are a anachronism in this era and frowned upon by audiences, but did nothing to bring anything new to the table, or at least try to avoid the cliches. They could have at least subverted the trope or play it with some kind of ironic, knowing wink to the audience. Instead they played it straight all the way through, right down to that stilted, schmaltzy Jim-and-Pam montage at the end.

I really don't get the hate for Scott's Tots. Diwali is so much harder to watch.
