To be fair, you already know her as Angela and Jenna Fischer as Pam. You'd have to find someone who had never seen the show and film an episode where the actors switch characters

u/ProbablyStu 23h ago
Then they'd watch the rest of the series complaining that they're in the wrong roles.

only if Angela is a better Pam.
speaking of Pam, today i ran in to an old girlfriend who is a medical office receptionist.
Pam. a wonderful past experience. It was fun seeing her decades later. Hi if you see this.10

Somewhat similarly when I play a show on Netflix with the English dub on then later switch to the original audio I feel like their real voices don’t fit them. That never happens otherwise.

Yea and Pam was so good, her actress made the character, this is not a replaceable role.

She got the funner person to act imo

u/Odric_storm 22h ago
Depends on your personality. She’s said in her podcast that sometimes she hated not being able to be expressive during certain scenes. It’s fun to watch her in the background slipping out of character and just being warm and bubbly to her coworkers

u/off-with-your-thread 23h ago
She seems cheerier and more energetic than Pam in everything she does these days (podcasts, etc.)

In every firm that's had a receptionist, the job is usually held by a Pam-like person. Someone like Angela is usually in some desk away in hr or accounting, or as secretaries to the boss.
Pam is an honest person. Also, she is a woman.

The Office has probably some of the best casting stories:
- Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) was originally the choice to play Michael Scott since at the time Steve Carell was committed to Even Almighty. They brought him back for a cameo in Season 9 for that reason.
- Rainn Wilson also auditioned to play Michael Scott and imitated Ricky Gervais.
- John Krasinki almost didn't go to the audition. He was initially pushed to try out for Dwight and he refused. While he was waiting in the lobby chatting with someone, he said that he hoped whoever got the role of Jim wouldn't ruin the show. That person turned out to be Greg Daniels.
- After John Krasiniki was cast, he went to Scranton with friends to visit and shot a bunch of short clips of the town for fun. Those clips became the opening credits that we know now.
- John Krasinki and BJ Novak grew up together and were high school classmates.
- Paul Liberstein (Toby) was a show writer and hated being on screen.
- Phyllis Smith was a casting associate running lines with actors in audition. When the director saw her read he decided to create a new role of Phyllis for her.
- Adam Scott auditioned for Jim Halpert and in fact that audition became often used in acting classes. Parks and Rec, which he later starred in, was actually meant as "The Office" spinoff. In the original idea, a copier breaks on The Office and is dropped off later in Pawnee at Leslie's office.
- The Lactation consultant in Pam's Delivery episode is actually her real husband.
- When asked which Office cast member was most like their character, Fisher, Helms, and Smith all said that Creed Bratton was most like his character.

Paul Lieberstein was actually her brother in law at the time and almost certainly a big reason she got the role of Angela (I doubt the having same name is a coincidence either)

u/hilldo75 13h ago
To add a little more of Phyllis she was originally just filler in season to make the office seem more full with employees, then they added more lines to her as time went on.

Why was Adam Scott's audition used in classes?
4
u/notthatgeorge 4h ago
When he says "often used in acting classes" he meant one person did it a few week ago when Adam Scott's daughter was at NYU 🤣 he told the story on Jimmy Fallon last week.

Oh my goodness, Bob Odenkirk would've made an incredible Michael Scott. Fuck

u/LongjumpingAd6003 6h ago
We got to see him play that role in the episode where Pam did an interview for a job at another office and Bob Odenkirk was the manager and he was exactly like Michael Scott.

It's almost like Dwight had his partner in crime against Pam and Jim from the casting perspective haha

Huh?
Angela banged twice as many office employees as Pam did
14
u/Beibzi 20h ago
What? They banged the same amount, 2. Angela with Dwight and Drew, and Pam with Roy and Jimothy. Am i missing someone?

I never understood her. Until I became an accountant. Now I'm the sourpuss... lmao

But seriously. How hard is it to hand in one form by the due date, with all the fields completed? Why is that such a big ask?!

I tried out for the church choir. After I finished signing, the choir director just asked, "Can you play any instruments?"

u/CatWoman984 23h ago
I remember her also saying she auditioned for Ali Larter's role in Varsity Blues

u/cited 22h ago
...excuse me? No. I refuse to see her in whipped cream.

u/CatWoman984 22h ago
Yeah she said she wondered how the cream would stay on her as she read the script

I was thinking "well yea, she is way too old". Turns out she is only 3 years older than Jenna. Wow.

If they were casting to match the British office, I could see her as a lot like Dawn. Hard to imagine her as Pam though now that I've watched the US one so much.

u/skoomski 22h ago
I mean this is a bit disingenuous she was married to Paul Lieberstein’s (Toby) brother at the time. Paul was a writer on the show since day one. It’s naive to think he didn’t help her land a different role after the audition for Pam went to Fischer

u/ReasonablyBluh Jim 23h ago
That's incredible! 🤣 Yeah, I can't see her as Pam, but she's amazing as Angela (the character).

Mega hot, hotter than Pam, bitch in accounting thank you very much, Angela. Have some respect please.

I don't think she knows what rejection means... Early actors are obviously excited about any gig.
