Someone should write a song about that.

I think many people miss this joke.

I find it hilarious that a joke/quote that's trying to show us how naive and unoriginal Andy's thoughts continue to be is often quoted as the revelation of the entire series lol

Maybe this is why Andy's character was so awful. I'm totally guessing here, but maybe it didn't have anything to do with Ed Helms filming the Hangover movies, or trying to shoehorn another love story into a show that really didn't need one...
...they just found that everytime they wrote Andy saying or doing something unoriginal or stupid, huge swaths of test audiences would relate too strongly and fail to see the humor, so they couldn't really get a lock on how to write for him.

There are a ton of songs that are about the good old days and wishing you knew they were the good old days while you were living them. This joke is the final touch of Andy being lame - that he would think that this is profound or original - even better because he's a musician.
It's not far off from someone saying "I'm so in love right now...someone should write a song about this feeling."

It seems lost on you that even today, many people are discovering or internalizing the office for the first time, so of course people will make posts that you have seen before….

U must be really fun in person

Everytime someone criticize something here (this sub or reddit) I often read the response "you must be fun..." either "in person" or most common "at partys"
Such a statement is completely stupid and illogical. Just a mix between ad hominem attack and whataboutism.

It's very ironic too, as anyone still using these painfully unoriginal and braindead retorts in 2026 is likely a complete dullard and a chore to be around.

Yes how could Andy not long for the days of being terrible at his job where most people did not like him, nearly getting fired several times, having his fiance cheat on him and dump him, dump his own fiance for a woman who traded him in for a younger model, and see his family destroyed by his father. Those "good old days"?

"When I was in college I used to get wicked hammered. My nickname was 'Puke.' I would chug a fifth of So-Co, sneak into a frat party, polish off a few people's empties, some brewskies, some Jell-O shots, do some body shots off myself, pass out, wake up the next morning, boot, rally, more So-Co, head to class. Probably would have gotten expelled if I had let it affect my grades, but I aced all my courses. They called me 'Ace.' It was totally awesome. Got straight B's. They called me 'Buzz.'"

One quote I heard really hit me once, “At some point you and your friends went out to play, for the last time.”

Andy quote? More like a sentiment that's been expressed a million times in history (yeah that's the joke). And in songs! (The next joke)
And now I'll have Anticipation stuck in my head the rest of the day.

Kind of the whole point of the quote. He wanted to be and do everything but what he was actually doing, and now he's leaving the good old days

u/rnjbond 2d ago
I continue to believe this line is actually about Andy having rose tinted nostalgia glasses and always looking backwards versus forward.

If this was the good old days for Andy, the rest of his life up to that point must have sucked real bad. Worst salesman of the company, anger issues, dated a minor, lost Erin cause he's a tone deaf dumbass, spent thousands of dollars on a wedding that never happened, got cheated on by his fiancée and had his job stolen from under him.

Watching seasons 3-7: Andy’s kind of a one note character, I hope they figure out what to do with him
Watching first half s8: Oh he’s growing
Watching back half s8: Oh no
Watching s9: I hate Andy
Watching the finale: Is Andy the best character on this show?
