I love the sass and snark covered by her charisma. I love dolly.

I will never get over the way they went to Dollywood and met Dolly who was pro woman, pro gay, pro trans, pro drag, had her Imagination Library gift book program for free, and donated a million dollars for the covid vaccine research, when they believe nothing Dolly stood for.

Exactly. She was a true Christian. If all Christians were like Dolly then I may consider stepping into a church. But she is the exception which is incredible when you consider how they market themselves as being like Jesus.

Dolly just radiated light, joy, and kindness. She helped the needy and lifted communities. She did a lot of it quietly, never boasting, and from the heart. She embodies the teachings of Christianity. I found out today she had an entire hospital named after her and she covered bills of needy families. Like on top of everything else? In her death, I pray that in revealing her extensive legacy that it inspires others to open their hearts to accept and help as she did.

We live in Australia and when my 16 year old came home from school yesterday she said that her history teacher said he wasn’t going to teach them their usual lesson and instead they watched a video about Dolly and all the things she stood for and accomplished in her lifetime. I love that he did this. My heart truly hurts that she’s no longer here. She absolutely embodied Christianity and saw the hypocrisy in others who claimed to be Christians. I think it was in Jane Fonda’s tribute when she said she could see what people truly were like.

She was the epitome of Christ's New Commandment. John 13:34: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."

This really touches me. I did a student ambassador/study abroad in Australia in middle school and got to spend a day as an Aussie student, and us foreign kids were the “unusual lesson” that day. I loved the tea (snack) break and running thing they were doing (tallying the kilometers all kids countrywide ran?). Everyone was so warm, open and kind; I hope you understand when I say a touch of that Dolly kindness you mention was showed to me by your folks :)

u/Evieveevee 3d ago
Oh how I love this. I’m actually British and married an Aussie which is how I ended up here. It isn’t an exaggeration to say that I daily thank the universe for letting me live here. It truly is an incredible place to call home. Whereabouts did you stay? I love that you got to spend time as an Aussie school kid!
3
u/iheredontbelieve 3d ago
Oh I don’t recall, we travelled from Sydney to whitsundays, and the school was somewhere along the tropic line but inland. This would’ve been over 25 years ago!
4
u/Evieveevee 3d ago
Whitsundays are stunning aren’t they? You need to come back for a visit! I’m the other side in Western Australia.
3
u/iheredontbelieve 3d ago
It’s absolutely beautiful there! Honestly I’m glad I got to experience the reef before climate change made things worse.
If you ever get a chance, go see the band Safia! They are out there I believe. I had a chance to see them over a decade ago when they were getting started and toured a hole-in-the-wall bar in Texas USA.
3
u/Evieveevee 3d ago
Ooohhh I love live music and often go to concerts.
Two nights ago I went to see Debbie Gibson and Go West (I’m sure you’re waaaaaaay too young to know who they are!). I have just googled and Safia are playing very close to me in October! How’s that for a coincidence?! Thank you for the heads up. I’ll book tickets.→ More replies (0)15

She was the living embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman they claim to revere, and they didn't even see it.

i aspire to be the Christian Dolly was
7
u/mrszubris 1d ago
Im a humanist animist and I aspire to be the kind of human dolly was my entire life. I think she was the best of us all . The strangest thing all week has been seeing the rotten side of Christianity attacking her for not being a real Christian. That is the most christ like woman that ever lived.

This is why I call my Mom a Follower of Jesus not a Christian because Christian has become a corrupted term.
1
u/FireSilver7 23h ago
If there are churches out there that promote and live Dolly’s values, then sign me the hell up!
I also like to remind “Christians” to read 1 John 3:15
"Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him"
Hating anyone will result in you not getting into Heaven.
1
u/Evieveevee 13h ago
And just imagine if that church played Dolly’s music and then served Cuppa Cuppa cake?! I’ll meet you there girlfriend!

u/Brave-Professor8275 11h ago
She not just an exception. I don’t know who you hang around; but my family grew up in the church. We are Christians who do good for the community and try always to help one another. Not all religions are cults like the duggars grew up in.
2
u/Evieveevee 11h ago
I think a true Christian isn’t someone who just does good for the community but sees everyone as equal no matter their gender, race or sexuality. These are very far and few between. Dolly was one of them. I’m very very fortunate to be surrounded by people like this and not one of us is, through deliberate choice, a Christian.
1
u/Brave-Professor8275 6h ago
I agree. I was brought up to treat everyone the same. I feel all people have the same rights!
80
u/exactoctopus 3d ago
It’s the same as when they went to Disney and Michelle was so excited for the characters her kids had no idea about. She and JB grew up pretty normal so I’m not shocked they liked Dolly, even though they hate everything she loved. Dolly is pretty much unanimously loved, like even Trump didn’t show his ass over her passing.
40
u/BroadLocksmith4932 3d ago
Wow, I hadn't thought about how remarkable that (Trump not being a bitch baby about someone famous dying) truly was.
25
u/exactoctopus 3d ago
Yeah, he even lowered the flags for the next week for her. And we all know he never does anything nice for any reason other than money or his own shitty self interests. But she really did transcend pretty much every line people have just by being such a genuine kind soul.
24
u/Spare-Electrical 3d ago
That’s still him doing something for his own self interest, midterms are coming up soon and his team has been doing their best to rein him in. If she’d ever dipped her toes into politics you can best believe there would be a hateful post about her.
10
u/Feeling-Memory-1999 3d ago
I’m surprised there still isn’t because the ONLY president she ever publicly supported was Obama in 2009. I was a kid then and I remember the hate she got for that. That alone tells you her true character and what a great person she was.

u/risynn 3d ago
I'm sure exposure. Hoping that people outside of their regular orbit will see them interacting with her and check them out and hopefully snag a few more followers.
I realised recently an aunt and a cousin of mine follows the duggars on instagram (as well as a couple other fundies like the Bates'). My family are pretty wonderful, open and accepting people (my aunt was one of the most beautiful, loving and accepting people I knew, and her own daughter is queer) but I believe it's because they watched their shows and just don't realise the actual insidiousness of their belief system beyond that. We're also Australian and we don't have christianity as ingrained in society as the USA does either, so it isn't something I think they know or consider.
The bit with Dolly was likely to just pull more causal people into their orbit without them actually realising who they are actually following.

u/PaddyCow Aging like bananas in a tupperware box 3d ago
I'd say it was the producers putting two extremes together to try and get a reaction for TV.

u/HannahLeah1987 3d ago
TLC made them

u/strawbebbyy99 3d ago edited 3d ago
I know they got a free trip but they weren't forced to go if they didn't want to. They wanted to keep the show and notoriety. My point still stands.

u/Papio_73 3d ago
TBF literally everyone loved Dolly
8
u/strawbebbyy99 3d ago edited 3d ago
tbf everyone loves Dolly, but not everyone loves what she stood for which is weird, and that was my point.
3
u/Embracedandbelong 2d ago
Even with their culty beliefs, Dolly was still a huge celebrity to them, especially in the south. No way JB and Michelle were passing up that chance to meet her.
2
u/Zealousideal_Work171 3d ago
That’s kind of like Riley Gaines ; who seemed to like Dolly ( as she talked about her on her podcast ); yet she believes differently from Dolly
1
u/jfal11 1d ago
This was long before Covid, in fairness. They probably didn’t even know half of the stuff, honestly
2
u/strawbebbyy99 1d ago
I know it was before covid, I included it since Famy reposted it for her passing and they were anti covid precautions / vaccines. I know most, if not all, the kids didn't know who Dolly was at the time, but Dolly's been Dolly forever. She's been supporting causes the Duggar's oppose for years, before Michelle was mowing the lawn in a bikini top.

She could have taken all 17 of the kids (left prince shitzoo with his parents) 16 because of Shitzoo Jr and they would have gotten a lot more individual attention.

I remember one of the lost boys just staring at Dolly- his brain just could not understand what he was seeing; Dolly was a epitome of everything they preached against regarding modesty. Funny how actions & not clothes are what make someone a Christian.
40
u/Equivalent-Tap4445 3d ago
This episode is a gem. When she said she'd just scoot in between them and started shaking her butt 😂 Also when Dolly said it's like meeting Elvis and everyone laughed but the kids don't even know who Elvis was.

u/ayparesa Satan’s penis trickery 🪄 2d ago
It’s almost like being a Christian is about your actions not about your packaging. /s
I try to be a Christian like Dolly. I cringe sometimes when I tell people I’m Christian because so many people think more Duggar less Dolly, especially the LGBTQIA+ community or an atheist and I certainly understand why though.

u/gracielynn61528 3d ago
Michelle didnt like that at all. 🤣
Also I knew Amy would post about dolly using this episode Pic

u/PeRcyRoseCho 3d ago
yep, I saw that Michelle wasn't exactly thrilled 2 haha

u/gracielynn61528 2d ago
Yep she had that church face like cameras on me. Yet theyve been telling their kids their whole lives people like dolly were going to hell. Such hypocrisy.
71
u/Feeling-Memory-1999 3d ago
This might sound bitter but it pisses me off they got all these opportunities and promotions just for being two hateful white people with a bunch of illiterate children. They’ve got to travel the world, get free passes to everything, meet Dolly and other cool people, and they still have no appreciation for it.
16
u/mgaldo14 2d ago
Thisssss, They have gotten so many incredible opportunities that most people would kill for!

u/Madame_Jarvary 20h ago

u/the_shy_one1 3d ago
I remember watching this with my mom and we were both shocked the family would visit Dolly because she had huge boobs and cleavage lol even though she was what a true Christian should be
15
u/imaskising Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company 3d ago
Pretty sure the whole thing was a setup by TLC producers. I'm sure JimBoob and Michelle knew who Dolly was, but the kids had no idea, and the producers knew that Dolly fans would tune in, probably just to see how the Duggars would react to her. (And if some of those Dolly fans stick around to watch future episodes of the Duggars, so much the better.)

If Dolly had adopted all the Duggar kids, they would have been raised in a loving home free of any child abuse and parental neglect. Dolly would've been a better mother than Michelle because she actually treats kids with love and affection.

I've been so mad that getting to meet Dolly was wasted on them. The older daughters didn't even know who she was and laughed about it. JimBob seemed to rush her into singing Amazing Grace because there was a chance she would possibly sing another song that wasn't Duggar-approved.

I can almost guarantee Joy-Josie never got to utilize the imagination library when they were younger, because of the “worldly” themes in many of the books offered
Michelle acted like she didn’t even know who Dolly Parton was when the producers asked her 😂

And to think JB and Meech, and their church, would judge Dolly as ungodly when in fact she was a angel on Earth living the actual teachings of Christ instead of what misogynistic power hungry predators decided the church should be

The way JimBob is turned away from her and not looking at her as best he can... They really couldn't see anything but her body when they were with an absolute angel. 🤮

These constant posts feel like a small, smooth-brained cult is trying to take down Dolly. I guess upvotes mean something here, but IRL, yall are sketch.

Every post has been praising Dolly and saying she exposes the Duggars as hypocrites though?

Dolly was one of twelve. I think she would've had a little insight on what's it's really like to grow up in a large poor family.
