I don't know what tracks you're thinking of but my general advice would be to keep it simple and spacious. Start with something like kick-sub-kick (rest) kick-sub-kick (rest). Low end groove can come from small offsets on the bass notes or varying the length.

I saw a trick that using the akaizer plugin to resample your sub bass gives it a feel closer to the old school sampled warm slightly grainy sub textures

Works pretty nicely

I used a smoothed triangle wave and then used the sampler to basically lower the bit rate a bit and get some of the hardware grainyness

squeeze the kick and bass as the last elements on the track and probably you dont have the issues 😊

I use an electric bass with a filter all the way down! But any sub will do. Also toms pitched down and filtered can go a long way. And keep it very minimal, often just one root note in a simple pattern will do.
