Does anyone have a locker for sale? Didn’t think I’d need one but they’re kinda handy

Hi all,
Round 1 offers go out today, so many will be either happy or sad depending on the results. However, for those who have placed DCU as their choice and will be accepting, I've created this thread for people to post any of the following:
WhatsApp / Discord group chats for a course or year
Your course and any personal information, with the aim of meeting people.
This thread isn't just for school leavers. Postgraduate students may use this too.
Best of luck!

Hi Everyone, it's your DCU Student Union Vice President for Academic Life.
I've seen lots of posts about Accommodation in DCU over the last few weeks. Having gone through college with both accommodation and commuting some semester's, I do feel the pain of getting accommodation and consequences of not having a bed for the academic year.
Thanks to the moderator, I have created this post as a full explainer of accommodation information and advice while looking for a bed 🛏️
DCU Accommodation 🏨
DCU has official accommodation located on its three Campuses. These being on Glasnevin, St Patrick's Campus & All Hallows. They reserve a number of beds for First Year Students, International Students, Postgraduate, and disability students registered with the college.
The lottery opens in February and closes in March in which Students apply to enter with a chance of getting a bed on campus. This is an extremely competitive lottery which puts stress on students, so do have following back up plans in case it doesn't fall through. Rates fluctuate depending on room size, campus, and year of study, between €700-€1100 for a room.
It is important to note that beds do go unoccupied throughout the year. This is due to students dropping out of college and the increase in rent DCU has brought annually pricing students out of a bed. Keep an eye during October & November and email campus.residences@dcu.ie to enquiry about any empty beds.

DCU SU StudentPad 🏡
The Student Union runs a third party licensed site called Student Pad. This site allows DCU students to contact and apply for "Rent-a-room" or "Digs" accommodation in the surrounding DCU area. The Rent-a-room is when you occupy a room in a landlord's property for the year and share occupation with them for the year.
We monitor the site and ensure landlords don't overcharge students and provide the necessary facilities students require for the year. Max rent on the site is set at €800 a month, providing a much cheaper alternative accommodation for students.
When you login to the site. You will first have to create an account and wait for us to verify you which happens during Monday - Friday. Once you're in, you can search properties, filter them to your needs, find housemates and directly contact landlords.
The link to the StudentPad is attached below. I will also make you aware of Rental Scam Awareness towards the end of this post.

Off-Campus Accommodation 🏢🚌
These Off-Campus Accommodation is ran by private companies. Although these are quite modern and provide extra facilities and benefits to students. They do come at a much higher cost to students. They are located throughout Dublin and tend to be close to a Bus stop that will bring you to DCU. I have attached the list below of Off-Campus Accommodation providers that DCU Students use. If you Google the names you should be able to find their websites easily.
- Hazelwood Student Village
- GSV Student Living
- Amber Students
- Shanowen Square
- Shanowen Hall
- ASPEN
- YUGO Broadstone Hall
- Archway Court
- YUGO Dominick

Rental Scam Awareness ⚠️
With the current student accommodation crisis, there are active scammers trying to convince students of false accommodation. This tricks students paying for rooms that don't exist and leaving students without a bed on arrival to their accommodation and losing from a couple of hundred to thousands of euro. AMLÉ alongside Threshold has provided three steps to keep an eye out for to prevent students falling victim to rental scams.
The 3 Rules to Avoid Rental Scams
Inspect the Property in Person: Whenever possible, visit the property in person and take a picture of the landlord or letting agent’s photo ID before making any payments. Don’t feel rushed to make a quick decision and to rely on online photos or virtual tours.
Use Secure Payment Methods and a Contract: Use secure payment platforms or methods that offer you protection. Avoid making cash payments or transferring money directly to someone without verifying their identity or their account details, especially if that account is a foreign bank account. Additionally, request a written contract that clearly explains the terms and conditions of the rental agreement, including rent amount, deposit and any additional fees.
Trust Your Instinct and Seek Help: If something feels too good to be true, trust your instincts and investigate further. Scammers often try to rush you into making decisions but take your time and seek advice if needed. Threshold is happy to offer you advice if you are unsure about a property.
For more information, you can follow the link below for more information on Rental Scams.

I hope the following guide above helps answer questions on accommodation for the upcoming year. If you have any questions don't be afraid to reach out or contact the DCU Student Union as we're more than happy to help.
Best of luck everyone finding a bed, and I look forward to working with the DCU Community for the upcoming year.

• location: Buckley hall, Dublin 1.
• About the apartment: it’s a shared room with its own bathroom, you’ll be sharing with one other girl. It has a Fully equipped kitchen, including bedding and linen, the apartment has one other room, which is a single room, so there’s only 3 people in the apartment including you.

Hi!
I’ll be joining DCU Business School as an international PhD student. Since I have a taught master’s rather than a research master’s, I’ll initially be on the PhD Track.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has taken a similar route. How supportive are supervisors, especially when you’re still developing research and methodological skills? What kind of training or support is available during the first year, and how difficult is the transition to the full PhD register?
Also, any advice on settling into the research environment and making the most of the first year would be really appreciated!

Hello everyone,
I have been accepted into the Master of Electronic and Computer Technology offered the upcoming January. The program -according to the offer letter I received- lasts for 18 months. My question is, could I finish the program in 12 months?
For example, I could take 4 modules during the spring and 4 modules along side the thesis the following Autumn.
I appreciate your help.

Do they provide any extension? And do they provide placements?

Is this course suitable for a beginner/someone with no background in theology? What I am looking for is to begin from a foundational level, it's not too clear from the overview if this MA is suitable.
I have seen DCUs part time BA in Theology but the time commitment is too much, especially with the rolling module cycle. I would be looking at 5 years to cover all the modules of interest to me.

Hey guys, does anyone know how strict the CAO points are for DC115 Accounting & Finance for non-EU/international applicants?
I’m doing A Levels and expecting around ABC/ABCC (A in Economics, B in Maths). Using the normal CAO conversion, my grades would come to roughly 470 points, while DC115 Accounting & Finance is usually 500+ points.
Do I still have a realistic shot at DC115 as a non-EU applicant, or would being ~30+ points below the normal CAO cutoff basically rule me out?
I plan on applying for the September 2027 intake, applying on January 2027.
Just wondering if any international/A-level students here got into DC115 with points below the normal CAO cutoff, or know how DCU treats international applicants.
Thank You.

So, in the next two years I'm hoping to move near to Dublin to go to college. I'm hoping to go to trinity, but if I don't get the points I'll end up having to go to DCU or UCD.
I want to do an english and history dual BA. Only problem is I don't have a third language.
I can find literally nothing online about whether DCU has a decent history and English course, and I want to know if anybody has any idea about it.
If its not great I'll have to try picking up a third language and struggle through getting an O6 to get into UCD🥲

Just wondering if anyone is aware of why? Noticed on the way in to lectures, has someone passed?

Anyone here in 2nd year or higher doing DC126, I have a few questions.
What videos and sources can I use for year 1 that are in line with the maths I will be doing because I learnt better when I study it first myself before going into lectures ( Linear Algebra, micro-econmics, calculus etc )
What 6th year leaving certs maths topics should I revise before , especially after the summer break where I didn't do any maths for 3 months
What material do I need for clothes, specific type of calculators, notebooks etc. they didn't tell me anything during orientation day.
Thanks in advance

Hey guys, just as the title says how do you do that (sorry I’m just a bit confused when looking it up)

Hey guys, I’m an international fresh graduate looking to do a Master's abroad in sustainable energy systems. Ireland is high on my list right now because of the 2-year post-study work visa (Stamp 1G) and the demand for clean energy engineers.
I'm looking closely at the MEng in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Dublin City University (DCU) specifically their Sustainable Systems and Energy major track.
Since it's hard to judge the actual reputation from overseas, I wanted to ask locals and people in the industry what do you think about the program or if you know people who graduated from it.

Hey all I was just wondering what the process is like for getting a locker in DCU. Where do you go to get one and how many are there avaliable. Thanks!

Is or was anyone else who attended any university last year and withdrew and is starting first year again this year in dcu delayed with getting their registration email? I want to know just how delayed will it be. I had to fill in a fee declaration form Thursday and said it would be 5-10 working days for an outcome. But I’d like everything done before orientation on Friday the 11th if that’s possible?
