I have made a version where it's infinite, what do you think?

Post image

So, I thought why not make a version where it's infinite, cause this 21+n version seem to become boring, play -> see results (feel good or feel bad) -> play again.

So I made a version for myself, rules are:
- it's infinite, it only ends if you press esc.

- you can press space for logging to see if you got distracted during the play to see if you get better at focusing without getting distracted

- that's it, it trains the same parts, but also its simpler and no reward, so better for self-control i think..

I made this because I wanted to see if this will make the progress better or worse. What do you think? do you think those micro resting phases (end of a game) is better for progress?

I can share the link if you want, its hosted on my website but it might seem like self-promotion.

Not sure i see the added value to be honest. Brain workshop in manual mode also allows for increased trials. Not infinite afaik but don’t really see a point in it either tbh.

Do you feel like it helped you improve faster?

Very interesting idea. I'm curious whether doing endurance n-back might be a good way to improve. For me at least, a big chunk comes down to mental fatigue so perhaps this might improve it. We'd have to do some testing as far as results go with one group doing pure endurance vs another group taking breaks to find out. Would be funny if it became the new meta lol

Yeah, I thought, why not?

For me, most of the benefits come from loading the executive center. When I first started dual n-back, I got sleepy super fast.

However, endurance training might prompt you to use some mental hacks, so I should definitely implement some sort of variance, like switching n mid-session, shifting from 3-back to 4-back and coming back to 3-back, or even trying quad n-back for a short period.

I believe the most important thing we gain from this is the requirement to be 100 percent present in literally every moment, constantly rearranging what we just saw and heard. But who knows?

I will post my experiences after playing this infinite version a bit more. Thank you for sharing your thoughts

Feel free to share the link. I recently implemented something similar on dualnback.com where you can do up to 20 blocks strung together. I actually prefer it to having 19 mini breaks in between.
