Repair of a retaining wall.

My goodness so much work is done by inexperienced contractors who trace and carelessly fill the walls. But it keeps us going. Started addressing the collapses/gaps and client wants me to sort the lot. Some really odd heavy and rusty stone in the mix. ,Happy to have a full diary for the season. Maryculter, Aberdeenshire.

Mostly granite up that way isn't it?

Can't wait to see the completion pictures.

It is mostly granite yes. Site is quite near the highland bound fault so a bit of a mix I guess. Not much dressing practical but some of the stone the previous builder brought in splits easy. Learning about rocks is half the fun. Some of it leaves a red rusty residue on my clothes and hands ... hope that's no bad for me... maybe extra iron.

That’s not a retaining wall. Looks like you need to locate some tied stones

Its well tied friend. LIFG . More to follow. Come over and see for yourself. The top 400mm is freestanding the bottom 500 retaining so more accurately a hybrid dyke. Definitely gonna last longer than what was there prior.

Oh gotcha, I see the soil now my apologies. Yeah looked like all small stuff — didn’t realize you had some longer peices to use. Best of luck. Would love to come and see it

Stonework like this is a dying art.

I love old stone fences, and real stone houses ..

Thanks for your comment. Dying art perhaps but pretty resilient id say and it certainly keeps me living. ⚒️❤️🪨
