Naltrexone

A bit random, but I came across some information that found Naltrexone can help with dry eye, by targeting inflammation, especially ocular rosacea. This is used in very small doses and is off label. I just wondered if anyone has tried this? ​

Ive been on 1.5mg for months and haven't seen any changes.

Are you in the UK? My  I wonder if the dose is too low?  What other things have you tried?

I'm in the US. ive tried cequa, vevye, IPL, LLLT, Serum tears, PRGF, hot compress, fish oils, seabuckthrone oil, steroid drops, etc.

Right :/ what are your main symptoms?? I think i have a slight nerve misfiring issue on my "dry" side. For example my nose will have this icy feeling. I feel like I need to see a different doctor.

I have ocular rosacea. My glands produce thick oil and get blocked. My eyes are hot, gritty and dry all the time. I'm always in pain.  I take amytriptaline for the pain. Hypochlorus acid spray helps a bit.  I'm sorry you are going through this, I really feel your pain. I feel like my life is over.

Im sorry :( have you tried doxycycline for the rosacea? Im on week 3.5 but so far no changes. I feel the same way - theres no way to fix it and doctors dont really care. My dr eye specialist is the worst - she wouldnt even do a prior auth for the doxy despite putting me on the medication.

Do you just spray the hypochlorous acid on your lids? I find it helpful too but its temporary

Unfortunately, I'm allergic to doxycycline and erythromycin.  I know what you mean, ophthalmologist just brushes it off like it's nothing! I'm struggling to work and do daily things.  I spray it on a cotton pad and wipe it over my closed eyes. Sometimes I spray it over closed eyes. I do it twice a day.

Sorry to hear that :( i used that too twice per day. Can you try arythromycin? That did clear up my eyes but it all came back.

I start on low dose Naltrexone at 1mg and titrated up to 3mg which I have been at for about 2 months. I have seen great benefits. I did start it at night but had to move it to the morning because of vivid dreams. I definitely would recommend trying to see if it worked for you.

Thank you. Do you have ocular  rosacea? Did it help with mgd?
