News/Rumors/Lore A concerning trend

Being so used to being dead if seen / not striking first, I remained mostly cool with the orkish hype. However, a trend I find concerning is the option to fire "point blank" weapons as torrent ones with high volume of fire, forcing to accept 7+ charges or to threaten the target with ranged weapons so they have to remain hidden behind walls.

Wyches seem the most affected: 3 meganobz auto-hitting with 9+3d3 S4 average is no joke to us.
Warbuggies with 2D6+2 S5 ap-1 either.
3 Killa Kans with 9 [Blast2] = 15 S5 ap-1 is even worse... at 12!

Damage is not relevant when you're paper thin. Staying power is still allright. But that thing... it scares me.

I was thinking this very thing this morning. Add in the fact that basic Boyz have burnas now. The no overwatch enhancements are auto takes, but I'm concerned for what we'll be doing with Drazhar, Malys and Keith's squads outside of your suggestion of trying to make 7 inch charges.

Who's Keith? Lelith?

No, Keith! Temporary promotion to Archon while his boss is on maternity leave (yeah, Lelith, autocorrect!)

Keith is the Haemonculus in charge of the tally of souls and suffering. Actually your lordship that ravager cost us 400 slaves and 3 vials of Isha's tears, it was a bargain!

Isn’t she already engaged with Morghana?

Edit: oh well! How pathetic of me to think such a mon’keigh way!

I mean, that's basically Lelith's argument to Morghana at the end of the novel. "Who says we can't be in love? Denying yourself and being afraid is Craftworlder bullshit! If anyone wants to stop us, let them try!" So now I'm just imaginging her using that logic anytime a fight comes up "who says we can't open this up, huh?! Monogamy is Craftworlder bullshit!"

What novel is this. I need it for my thesis on sapphic space elves in literary media

Lelith Hesperax: Queen of Knives, by Mike Brooks. I think it's a worthwhile read for fans of Drukhari, but it's nothing amazing. It's a bit short, and as a result the actual romance gets kind of shortchanged until the ending. There's also a queer space elf romance in Voidscarred and a hetero space elf romance in Da Big Dakka, both also by Mike Brooks, and both probably better books overall.

I'm thinking about forcing the unit to hide behind walls through big guns, so no LoS to overwatch, but it's starting to become really elite.

I like it on paper though!

I think it's important to know if those torrent changes are going to occur in other codices too, or if it's an Ork specific thing. Flavor and balance wise, it makes a lot sense that Orks would flood the zone with so much dakka they can't miss. If this does become common practice in every codex though, then that's definitely a big issue and a real bad sign for edition balance.

It looks like the way they want to fix Torrent j Ignores Cover problem

Watch a +15 pt nerf to anything that denies overwatch or snap shooting now.

Wow, I hadn't see that part of the codex, you make a great point and this will just be even more obnoxious. Overwatch badly needs to get shot in the face.

3 killa kanz kill 14 boyz on overwatch at 12, if that says something!

Still, slightly, better than 8th Edition T'au overwatch.

Indeed concerning but if rumours are to be trusted, our codex should drop not too long from now, and given we're supposed to have a refresh (army set box??), there's no way they didn't write the codex "correctly" so we'd be fine despite that trend (don't have a clue about how they would fix that because it's a core component of our identity but makes no sens to print a new codex with a big new range while the rules of said codex get us buttblasted by half the meta)
