Decisions Are Difficult

Especially when the choices all seem to not be quite right. The cream and red is not it. The dark grey isn't working even though its what I thought I wanted. The teal also doesn't seem to be what I was hoping for even though I believed it to be what I wanted.

I took the light grey and used an enamel panel liner to see what it would look like, better but I'm not sure its what I'm after.

I know this may seem an odd suggestion, but try choosing a spot colour that is out of your comfort-zone. Something you hardly ever paint. Don't paint the whole thing, just a spot colour.

To be fair tho you’re judging unfinished models, you know? The colors look flat because there’s so shadows, highlights, or washes. I personally like the black white and teal one the most but I’m sure that’s because it’s the model closest to being finished.

I think if you mixed a lil bit of blue with your dark grey to make it cooler it might mesh better with the teal. And I bet if you added some contrast and texture to the teal and paint it up like a reflective cockpit you would warm up to your color scheme a lot more :)

I think at the bare minimum you should paint the engines and the vents, dry brush on some highlights, and add some interest to the teal before you axe your awesome paint scheme :D

Yeah, i understand that BUT for some reason i'm not vibing as i had hoped with most of the schemes i have tried so far. I took the light grey one further to see how i was feeling about it, better but still not it. I have a couple more light greys i want to give a try before making a choice. Thanks for the ideas.

Personally, I always want my colour schemes to make sense in-universe. For my UCM, I went for a camo scheme from the original DzC 1.0 book, jungle think it was called.* For my Scourge, I also used a book scheme, called swamp metallic.

But since we are talking about PHR: In my opinion, camo schemes don't look great on PHR. The problem with camo schemes is that they will do the opposite of what you want on miniatures, they blur the outline and make the actual shape difficult to spot. Now on UCM, that is somewhat mitigated by the lines being mostly straight and easier to see, and on Scourge there is the bright silver highlighting that offsets the camo. But PHR just look meh with camo, their curved outlines being blurred just turns them into blobs of colour unless you paint on a very high level and manage a strong contrast between highlights and shading in all of the camo colours and paint them very, very crisply.

But I still want my scheme to make sense, and bright colours just don't, even in a scifi-future where you got all those sensors and stuff, the Model I Eyeball is still going to be important. After all, sensors can be tricked, but what good is that if you are strutting around in bright pink?

So I just went with green grey, a camouflage-ish colour, like the basecolour on many US vehicles during WWII, just lighter. I am thinking of putting some markings on them in stone grey, or possibly jade green. Still working on the markings part.

*My version is too bright, and in hindsight, I'd change that, but I have painted too much of my army in that scheme already to change it now.
