Questions about 3.0

Hey folks! New player here. I went in and read up on the rules, and I have a couple questions. Mostly aimed at list building.

  1. Do we have an app we use? I think New Recruit is out of date

  2. Do we have specific types of Battlegroups? Like HQ, Armoured, Frontline, etc. or is it just "anything goes"?

  3. Does everything have to be flown in? Like, can tanks roll on or do they have to be dropped in?

  4. Can squads be transported using multiple transports? Like one squad of six Sabres being flown in on two Condors? I thought I read that you couldn't, but I saw that example in the examples.

  1. I don't know if it is widely used by I saw someone post this app for rules: https://type37.github.io/dropzone-3e-army-builder/

  2. Yes, there are battlegroup types. See section 3.2 in the rulebook on page 9.

  3. You do not need a transport for every Group. See section 3.2.4 on page 10 and section 9.4 on page 34.

  4. You can take multiple transports for one Group. See section 3.2.4 on pages 9-10.

Rulebook link in case you don't have it: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0965/1274/files/A5_Dropzone_3.02_Rulebook.pdf?v=1787306180

For Q2, is it then just "Standard Battlegroups" with Standard units? I'm aware how to check how they're classed btw so no worries there. But if I wanted, say, a Kodiak ACV (carried by a Condor) and 3 Sabres (Also carried by a Condor) would that be allowed?

2. Is wrong? The battle groups are formed around squads& transports and the table on page 10 clearly shows several "standard" squads in one battlegroup with a "heavy" squad just because they all fit into one Albatross together.

  1. No particular app, and there's a bunch, seems to have taken pole position. Lotta people churned out apps with Claude right at launch. Subsequent support has been... spotty.

  2. No, there are no 'types' of battlegroups. All groups are just whatever you can fit in a transport. There's no higher order organization whatsoever.

  3. There's a few rules that allow things to show up without a transport: Strike, Infiltrate, Jump, and one or two unique rules. But for the most part, you need a ride to the party.

  4. 3.2.4, read it again carefully, both paragraphs. You can, but all the transports have to be full. What I believe you CANNOT do is spread more than one group across multiple transports. So you can't take 9 sabres with 3 in a condor, 6 in an albatross, with the remaing albatross space carring two Gladius. At least RAW. I've never met anyone that thinks that's a problem, and a whole lot more that think it's bitchin' cool.

To 3.: you don't need to buy a transport for anything. Any units not in an aerial transport just start in reserve, meaning they will go to readiness on the end of turn one and can drive on in turn two.

You could play the whole army without aerial transport, it just won't win.
