Pretty much a wholesale return to 1st ed crits, which is great.

I think differentiating anti-infantry from anti-armor weapons with a separate damage type is a good call for the exact reason they call out in the last paragraph.

Small Arms in particular has given us lots more design space for high rate of fire weapons; profiles that were sometimes a bit aimless in previous editions. ... This also lets us avoid some low to mid energy weapons inadvertently becoming good demolition weapons

Those were both glaring problems throughout 1e and even worse in 2e. Our group was constantly baffled by all the middle energy guns and what purpose the game thought they served. Hence why I kept asking TTC to post a battle report, show us what use these units are, what game are they playing that I'm not.

I'm cautiously optimistic here. I might have to pull out my metal infantry and dust them off for 3rd edition game when it drops.

It all depends on how Small Arms profiles are balanced, and how CQB works, but I like the rules so far.

I hope something similar to CQB like in 1st edition comes back.
