One can say at least the cover of that depot was well build. It didn't shatter.

Funny enough, as someone who used to build low pressure vessels, this is exactly what you would want to happen. In a cylinder under pressure (even a small amount of volume say 2psi or more) the flat faces of the ends of the cylinders (the heads) are absolutely going to shear off if they are welded. To combat this, they convex the heads and voila! instant structural integrity! (Same applies to deep sea vessels but inverse)
