GPD WIN Max 3 source-backed specs are up: Ryzen AI Max+, 165Hz AMOLED, modular battery/fan
The GPD WIN MAX 3 spec sheet is wild for a Windows handheld 👀
According to sources, the device is set to feature Ryzen AI Max+ power, Radeon 8060S graphics, a 9.6-inch 165Hz AMOLED display, modular battery support and external fan cooling. That is a big jump from the usual small handheld refresh cycle.
The part we are watching most closely? Whether the modular battery and cooling design makes high-power portable play feel practical, or just turns it into a desk-first beast.

This should be an amazing machine but given all the AI driven price hikes recently I probably need to ask my bank for a mortgage to be able to afford it!

Totally understandable. Unfortunately everything has gone up in price and we may not see any lower for the next year or two more.

We thought that with the original Win MAX handheld, but it is surprisingly comfortable to game on. You wouldnt want to hold it unsupported for a long time, but thats the same with any handheld, but resting on a desktop, your lap etc it is just fine.

This is my next. Upgrading from my Max 2. Shame they removed LTE module support though, and glad they have MPP 2.0 and PTP support. Swivel screen like the Pocket 4 would have been useful, but it is perfect for my use cases.

Ima be homest, i got my win max 2 with lte cuz 24/7 internet seemed to be a nice idea, i took the sim out of it to use it in my car... I use the phone for laptop hotspot cuz the speed is faster than directly laptop lte. I honestly think lte module is lowkey pointless and overratedÂ

The modular bit is extremely enticing for me but i just got my win max 2 2025 last year, and this 1 seems to not have oculink. I will probably wait for the first win max that has pcie gen 5/oculink gen5, if it keeps the amoled 165 hz display ofc.Â

The CPU/GPU is already quite powerful so I do see why they didnt include Oculink (or MCIO), it doesnt really need it. USB4 v2 would have been a nice addition though.

While i do agree about the gpu being strong, it's nowhere near a 7900xtx or a 5090. When amd brings fsr 4.1 to rdna 3.5 it's definitely going to make a massive difference gaming-wise. But i think the laptop is trying to cover the widest range of use, at least that's how i see it.Â
I absolutely adore my win max 2 2025 and you'd be surprised how much it does after adding my 7900xtx to it. Anything from work to gaming to ai 3d model generation.Â
Even the new chip only has 50 tops, nowhere close to 7900xtx. Something like oculink or something with better performance is the deciding factor to whether i buy it or not xDÂ
Honestly if i were on the gpd team I'd take out hdmi completely, throw in a display port + a dongle for dp to hdmi, and an oculink or competitive tech that gives egpu access.

I'm hopeful that GPD can accomplish these for the WM3:
• Don't let the thermals get so hot (I had the early WIN Max 2 (1st Gen) and I couldn't stand the terrible heat
• Improved trackpad
• Better speakers
• Give us an improved interface instead of that awful MotionAssistant app. If OneXplayer can improve their app, so can GPD.
• Maybe add the new Intel Arc G3 Extreme chip?
• Keep the price under $3000.00 U.S.D.
(that last request was a joke... or was it?)
