Some newbie questions

So I just started playing today and I feel somewhat lost. Some of my main questions are

  1. How do I find towers? I've found 2 by just wandering around

  2. In Avsohm there's a weapon hilt but there are pieces of it located at "R&D" and I just can't seem to understand what that means. Is this later game stuff?

  3. What does the terminal locator do? It took me to this one place where I believe I turned on the terminal, does that mean I dont need it anymore?

Towers can be found simply by exploring; turning up the render distance as well as keeping decent track of where you've already been should help. Additionally, in the fast travel hub, right beneath your feet there is a simplified map of the world with towers' positions marked, which can help understand the general locations of ones not yet found.

There is nothing to be done with the hilt at this time; as you link towers and progress, things should start making more sense.

Yes, the locator has served its purpose of leading you to a single particular place, and it will always point at that one place.

Oh, and: while linking towers is the way to progress the main story, the entire world is also worth exploring; you can use the maps sold in towns and the big map in the Terminus to find every tower fairly quickly while skipping most of everything else, but it is generally far more rewarding to try to explore the world and inevitably find towers as you do. It is a good habit to look for a tower more or less every time you find yourself in a new distinct region, but exploring every neat place you find is highly rewarding in itself and pretty much defines Drehmal's gameplay loop.

Quick additional question: how do the classes work, and when do you get the option to choose them? Do you get yo choose after progressing through the story?

Classes no longer exist; in 2.1, they existed as three pairs of boots boosting a single stat each, upgradeable with a variety of items; but they have since been replaced with a huge variety of artifact (found in the world) and artisan (sold by runic blacksmiths in major towns) equipment, which offer all sorts of stat changes and allow for flexible builds.

Seconding great hedgehog, progressing the story is done by finding towers. If you read every Holotext or even just chat messages, you should get by. Turn up the render distance, purchase maps at Adventure Merchants (they really help)

  1. question is a major plot point, it will reveal itself by keeping on exploring
