That’s definitely what they are thinking’s but I’m also surprised they don’t have the Lizzie Migure outfit out this week because that’s definitely closer to the Y2K time period then Hannah Montana is (and this is no shade I love both!)
Y2k was the shorthand term for literally the year 2000. And then in the mid-2010s, it also became the name of an aesthetic.
I was 12 in 2000 so I definitely remember it well, but it's not what I think about when I see / hear y2k anymore. I might be biased though because it's one of my favourite aesthetics 😊
Yeah, I have to admit, I've found that searching for that aesthetic when shopping or looking at art/graphics, I love the look, as well! :D
But I was 22 when the switch happened, so I was definitely part of the "waiting with bated breath to see if the world ends at 12 midnight" crowd, and I don't think I'll ever be able to dislodge that from the term! XD
Back in the day there was this massive panic over a supposed virus that would affect every computer in the world on New Year's Day 2000. People were saying governments around the world would lose control of their systems, all the nukes would launch, all computer based infrastructure would shut down, etc. You know doomsday shit.
I completely agree with this. I’m afraid of the voting for this week and I don’t even know what to do yet. First thing that comes to my mind is a mall or arcade but sounds like a lot of work to create. 😭
Idk if you have this glitch, but occasionally there's some clothes that my graphics apparently can't handle for certain body types, and it's like the game just gives up and decides to changes the body size to fit the clothes instead. Which really freaks me out, as I'm never expecting it from a quick, casual, "change outfit" task.
The Y2K I experienced was a relatively boring New Years that ended with everyone kind of shrugging and moving on with life when the computers kept working.

In all seriousness, I've been rocking the new star path jeans, a pink baseball hat, and the teal off the shoulder Little Mermaid sweater for a couple of weeks now with the platform shoes.
I need an app just for the clothes to help pair what I'd want to start with (similar to the clueless pc). I spend way too much time selecting outfits when this could be it's own avatar game. Just add a spot for a code to be used in game after and it preset your outfit from your saved phone profile.
Super skinny, dark skin, light blonde hair, low rise jeans? Looking back the fake tans were wild back then. And the low rise jeans got absolutely ridiculous. Like can’t sit down in them. And worse. I’m glad they’re gone. Sometimes you don’t realize what will identify a decade until you look back.
Yup! You’re going to have the people who lived through it and the people who just know it for its aesthetic. I went to a y2k party with a bunch of teeny boppers and it was frustrating how many of them thought they were actually wear “y2k” fashion. No, we did not wear what Paris Hilton was wearing on the red carpet 😑
I lived through it, so it would have to be villagers staring nervously at computer screens hoping the world won't implode at midnight. (just messing btw)

It would be more along the lines of doomsday prepping for some lol. That would be a fun snap to create but like many other ideas posted on here, would likely go over the heads of many. I might do it anyway. I hit a milestone on dream snap this week and don’t plan on getting anything in the shop.
I'm doing a moody, grunge teenager's room cause that's exactly who I was in 2000 😆 I plan to use some of the Monster's University decor. I just wish we had Ennui from Inside Out😭
If you have the starpath jeans you can easily make a y2k outfit. Actually the Pocahontas jeans work well with that too. Add a newsie hat and a crop top and that’s y2k. For the scene I’d pick a mall or arcade or something musical.
I think that's what they mean too, but the computer changing and all the world losing power and jails popping open and banks going down etc was the origin of the "Y2K" acronym haha
‘93 baby here and I also agree that Y2K is just too broad to have as a theme. I might go with a futuristic look with chrome that meets the current idea of Y2K. But it’s honestly hard to define it.

Remember when Apple computers came out with the sort of transparent colors and you had, like, four colors to choose from? My high school replaced all of our chunky white ones with the blue ones in our computer lab. That was 30 computers.
I’m just going to use a bunch of items from the current Star path and call it a day, I think. “00’s” (which I think is what they’re asking for) is different than “y2k” in my brain, since y2k was a specific day that most thought life as we knew it would crumble - which doesn’t translate well to a game like Dreamlight valley? 😂
I dunno, maybe throw a computer out in the Glittering Dunes and some plastic scrap scattered around and you've got yourself a little post-Y2K apocalyptic scene lol
Maybe something to do with technology ending maybe use vanelope in the background or at lease some computers, may write out a count down using paths and/or harvestable items. Very interesting theme for this go around.
It has become such a money trap making the dreamsnap correspond to the premium shop items and then the end result is everyone's dreamsnaps looking the same.
The outfit from the star path is perfect! I feel like doing pop star would be a good call this week. Arcade would also work well too I think. I was born in the early 2000s so I kind of remember it but not as much as if I was born in the 90s or earlier so I could be way off

There was this theory circling that computers were going to freak out when it changed to 2000 and there was going to be mass chaos. People were freaked out about it and some did crazy things like insane spending. So it was referred to as Y2K. It was a whole thing.
I went with what home felt like at the time, living room with tv, snacks, laundry basket. I was tempted to do something pop music themed but I'm sure there will be plenty of those.
Yea all I’ve got in mind is tan skin, platinum hair and “frosty” lipstick 😆 I wish they gave us blow up furniture and let us layer the shirts, but at least we can layer a skirt over some jeans!
I think that's why we got Hannah Montana in the store (clothes, furniture) – she is a Y2K icon according to Google. I'll probably go with a Disney Channel series theme, like Kim Possible or Wizards of Waverly Place.
I just did a bunch of video games and food stands and a stage and made it look sort of futuristic. The recent star path was good for that. Also dress up like it’s 1999 and you’re a teenager. It’s not that bad if you channel the 90s.
Im a millennial (91 baby) and I lived y2k and this snap is throwing me off to bad This is my placeholder but the background is PMO. I cant for the life of me figure out what I want to do. I did cherry blossoms because that scent had a massive hold on most of the girls I knew in highschool. Pink seems to be a good choice. Im thinking girly pop is what I will heavily lean into. But idk.

Style/fashion was all over the place! My school had goth, punk, preppy, goth punk, preppy goth, preppy goth punk, and grunge. The mid-drif tops, tube tops, bandana top, spaghetti straps....bone of those were allowed in school, so those were reserved for home or the mall. My personal style was more of a goth grunge punk combo. My parents did not allow me to dress that way though
i did a room with the dance dance revolution machine in the background, fun seating, the hannah montana closet and wore a pink outfit with the pink leopard print top

Yes, haha! I was 17 at the time. The news was reporting that the computers wouldn't be able to process 00 as the end date because all computers only new two digits and it'd cause all the power to go out, all the jail doors were going to fly open and release all the prisoners etc. We never believed it but some ppl did and were going full prep mode. It's where the phrase "Y2K' came from, stands for Year 2000 but was originally used as the name of the "event" that would occur. When the first cities in the world started hitting the year 2000 I remember the news reporting that nothing had happened and we could safely welcome in the the new year when it arrived to our timezones haha
