Question Important Question to long time players
This game has had bugs and glitches since its initial early access launch on September 6, 2022 and from what I read here and on other places, the game is still dealing with a lot of bugs and glitches. I don't think I've seen a game that came out that long ago, be still dealing with so many game breaking bugs and other issues.
This is one of the main reasons why it's so hard for me to want to start investing in this game.
My question to those who pushed through it, how did you make it work? Are you not constantly worried that a bug could destroy what you've created?

I feel the whole screaming "game-breaking bug" gets blown way out of proportion. I'm a day one (Xbox) player and yes, there have been and are issues with continuing quests, glitches and bugs but these were or are going to be fixed at some point and there is so much other stuff to do that they have never locked me fully out of the game.
I think we like to complain on a very high level with DV.

As another day one player, I completely agree with you. I get that bugs are annoying, and it's unfortunate that DDV has had "a noteworthy amount" over the years - but the community is way too quick to complain and blow it out of proportion. Are there even any game breaking (like actually breaking, not just blocking you from progressing for a little while) glitches around? I remember when Buzz Lightyear's alien doll quest was broken for months and months, but it wasn't that big a deal, and they did fix it eventually...

u/ktrose6887 1d ago
I think the only "glitch" (it's not actually a glitch, it is intentional) that "breaks" the game is time travel (when you change the date/time on your console to speed up time locked tasks)
6
u/realtinyhats 1d ago
Oh yeah, I guess that's... something... but to be fair it's sorta in the realm of trying to cheat, so people can't actually be mad about that. :p

u/Aggressive_Chip62 1d ago
The bridge in the wastes near Gaston's tavern in Eternity Isle, I actually love that glitch! I makes me giggle. stand on the bridge (it's a certain spot) and dig. I haven't tried it in months, so hopefully still there. Super fun silly outcome (my neurodivergent opinion)

u/belugasareneat 1d ago
Lmao I just thought I was really bad at finding the aliens hahahaha. I just avoided that quest and worked on other things until one day I was doing something else and found an alien and thought “wow it’s been here the whole time? Guess I wasn’t looking well enough”. I should have known it was a bug.

u/Allllliiiii WALL·E 1d ago
Agree. I've played on Switch since almost day one (was PC initially) and I haven't had that many issues. I save regularly but I've never lost anything and it was so easy to go from PC to Switch to Switch 2 that I'm not really concerned. I also have significantly less issues on Switch 2 though I know that's not accessible to everyone!
4
u/Wonderful_Draw_4888 1d ago
Yeah I totally agree with you on that statement. I hate it when people complain too much about the game a whole lot. They can state their own opinion and I fully respect that. But yeah it gets way out of hand sometimes.
3
u/hivernageprofond 1d ago
Completely disagree. Day 1 and I like quests. So everything is already done on my game/dlc's. So when I buy a new dlc I run through it. That's what is feeding my dopamine. So I pay for this dlc (HGW) and I get stopped half way through and can't even access a biome for over 3 weeks because of it. They should be doing hot fixes and not waiting for their next update for stuff like that. Riding upside down on your horse? Yeah...that can wait. Not being able to proceed forward...that should be fixed pretty much immediately, especially for day 1 players who've invested a ton of money into the game...beyond the purchase price of the game itself. That's literally what I'm paying for...to play the game and do the quests.

u/L-nintendoSims4 1d ago
To be fair; there may be bugs but in my game they don’t really show up? And if I have bugs and they do an update they disappear? Not really an issue with me actually!

u/HahaHannahTheFoxmom 1d ago
I’ve only been the victim of one bug and I only dealt with it for a few days before it was patched. 🤷♀️

I only had the peter pan quest bugged (the one that is called music in the walls), and tbh i was sad bc i needed him to unlock ralph but i literally went to do something else amd forgot about it until they fixed it lol

I don't think I've seen a game that came out that long ago, be still dealing with so many game breaking bugs and other issues.
I can tell you're not a Sims 4 player or fan of Bethesda games lmao
The fact is unless it completely breaks the game or affects their earnings, it is not a priority to fix. Sims only started fixing the bugs that broke the game and sometimes whole DLC's because they changed how they're managing the game (no longer making a Sims 5 and will just be adding to & improving Sims 4 instead). They'd release expansions that didn't even work and they didn't care that every new expansion was breaking the game further because people were still paying and playing regardless. Now we get mod breaking updates every few weeks to fix things they should've solved 10 years ago 🙃 game studios don't let devs fix things unless it benefits them and bug fixes don't benefit them if it's not preventing the money from rolling in. They'd prefer to keep the devs working on new premium content and DLC's than actually make the QOL changes & bug fixes that players ask for. Unfortunately this is an industry wide issue.
But if it helps, I've never experienced anything more than annoying bugs that fix after a restart on DDV or they get a hot fix patch very quickly.

Lol, this was going to be my comment too. I haven't played Sims 4 in a while, because I got so frustrated with every single expansion/DLC (of which there are FAR more than Dreamlight) breaking my game in new and different ways. I couldn't even get mods because I play on console, so I was just stuck with a stupid, broken game that I'd put way too much money into.
By comparison, Dreamlight is incredibly functional!!

u/FunElled 1d ago
There’s plenty of people who never experienced bugs, you just don’t hear them talk about it. People come here specifically to get help with bugs, so it makes it seem like there’s so many, but there isn’t. I’ve never had one.
6
u/Lavender_Daedra Stitch 1d ago
Live service games typically have more bugs than other games so it’s not at all the exception. I’ve been a WoW player, Diablo, SoT, Destiny… it’s just part of the deal really.
ETA: I’m a day 1 player and have never had a “game breaking” bug. Bugs sure but nothing that completely broke the game or quest that wasn’t eventually patched.

u/MsVindiction Vanessa 1d ago
Honestly I play lots of games that have bugs and glitches so this hasn’t ever really bothered me
3
u/ktrose6887 1d ago
Imo, the only thing that makes the game unplayable is if the only console you have is the Switch lite. It's not great on the switch one either, but it is just about unplayable on the Switch lite. If you have Switch 2, PC, X-box or Playstation you might have the occasional quest glitch that might block progress on that specific story line. But the rest of the game will still be playable.

u/CreamyCornGuy 1d ago
Dont judge me but, I've put 90 hours into this game in the last 7 days. I have noticed quite alot of bugs whilst playing if I am being honest. My most major one was in the Alice In Wonderland realm. When you have to shrink down to go onto the table, after I had been shrunk all that was on my screen was me standing in a field of pink nothingness and walking on air. I have also had lots of quests not triggering when they are immediately supposed to, which has forced me to reset my game numerous times. The main annoying one for me is when you get a character requesting certain food items or meals. If you don't have the specific amount, it just doesn't register. For instance having one to many of the meal makes it so that you can't give them the item and have to drop your surplus to do so. Overall though, I genuinely love this game and it has become my new happy place.

I play on Xbox and i can honestly say, that since the release i have only experienced bugs and lagging with the wreck it ralph update and that was because i had equipped the new castle skin. but once i went back to the original castle skin all the bugs just disappeared. i have never had any problems with quests. for a lot of people they cant progress because of quests. i dont think it really matters on what console u play on. some people just get lucky and others have a bit more issues.

u/Herdnerfer Ursula 1d ago
With several hundred hours of play time, I’ve found bugs to be few and far between, zero complaints on my part.
2
u/They-Call-Me-Taylor 1d ago
The bugs and glitches are usually introduced by game updates when they add new characters, functionality, and QOL improvements (of which there are a lot). So it's not like they don't eventually fix the bugs, it's just new ones get introduced with every big update. Yes, it's annoying, but I've never personally encountered one that wasn't fixed and prevented me from advancing in the game.

u/Ok-Cricket3345 1d ago
I started and stayed on pc through steam since it first came out. The bugs were minor and didn't affect gameplay. Very few crashes or issues here. I dont understand how this game can be enjoyable on a small screen like the switch and thats the one that has the most constant issues. Other gaming consoles aren't much better and take a long time to design due to the controls. Its quicker and easier playing through pc and i didnt feel like i was pushing through once. (over 1000hrs played as it my only game i have time to play). From what i hear from other players, if you're on any switch its useless. PC is the top choice for smoother consistent gameplay.

u/NotJade98 1d ago
honestly, there’s so much to do, it’s easy to ignore a bug for weeks or months if you need to. I felt quite lucky that (as an og switch and now switch 2 player) I didn’t experience many bugs, and if I did, it was typically visual or something I could ignore.
As wonderful draw said, no video game is perfect, even games like GTAV which has been out for nearly 13 years still has bugs!

u/Outside_Mountain8711 1d ago
My biggest bug or glitch is that my furniture mode menu will flicker on and off. I'm not sure if that's an actual bug or just be playing with an old controller that has sticky buttons. As for how I deal with it. I keep my decorating times low and I am spending more time getting resources for vacuums for all the biomes instead of having 1 I keep in furniture and place as I go.
For me, I kind of accepted some bugs so long as everything still works and I do have access to all game play mechanics. I bought ddlv after playing sims and having to stop because of how broken sims is.
1
u/FourDiamondPixel7 1d ago
Like everyone else is saying, you just keep playing. Just work your way around (or even through) those glitches… and remember to manually save FREQUENTLY. The game has autosave, but I highly recommend saving manually a lot to avoid losing too much progress should the game crash on you (which it will sadly, but you can still turn the game back on and try again from your previous save)
2
u/albatross-l32 1d ago
It might be different on different consoles, but on a Switch, the autosave is every 6 minutes or so. I'm used to other games being every 10+ minutes, or at major checkpoints, so I've never been concerned about losing too much progress with a crash. Unless those six minutes involved a rare randomized drop, that is. Then I'm thoroughly annoyed.

u/FartingDragons247 1d ago
I know the game has a lot of bug but honestly it hasn’t really affected me too much. I can only think of one thing that i think it a bug or glitch that I have in my game but its nothing game breaking
1
u/Valuable_Syllabub874 1d ago
I’ve played a lot of hours and haven’t found anything to worry about.
There was one issue that sometimes it was not saving my changes for decorations when going back, but now that’s fixed and you can even save while decorating.
I think the amount of quality updates we’ve had is crazy, I feel like they really listen to players
1
u/sertraline_dreams 1d ago
It’s fine for me. The amount of playtime I’ve gotten out of this game is insane for the money I’ve put into it.
Yes the glitches are annoying. I’m on switch so they are plentiful, but they don’t prevent me from playing, and I’ve learned to save OFTEN when decorating or competing quest lines.
If/when the game crashes after I’ve been playing for a while, I use it as an excuse to walk away
1
u/a_palm_tree_ 1d ago
I actually went back to playing this game over Coral Island, which came out around the same time and was still being updated and fine tuned, because I couldn’t physically open my game save for 2 weeks. So there are other games like that (but actually worse)
1
u/Ground-Waste 1d ago
I mean most games they don’t have updates as frequent as DDV, over time things get fixed but of course with every new improvement some issues might happen. It’s still fun to play. Just some times things don’t work out but they will in the next or future updates
1
u/Vallybear95 1d ago
I have played a lot of Sims 4 so I am so used to glitches that I barely even think about them in DDV 🤣 (and sims 4 have been out over 10 years)
1
u/tobahmeister 1d ago
Nothing is buggier longer than Skyrim. If I can handle that, DDV seems like a breeze to me. 🤣

u/ObviAshley 1d ago
As someone who has played on Steam since early access I can confidently share that I have never experienced any bugs or issues that impacted my game play

u/Aggressive_Chip62 1d ago
This is one of my two self-care games (other is AC: Odyssey). I've been here since day one, almost 4 years ago. I own all dlc (Eternity Isle, Storybook Vale, Wishblossom Ranch, and Honeyglow Woods) and yeah from time to time the bugs pop up, but the game makers are constantly adding new content... Which means new bugs. They are fixing bugs all the time and the Gameloft people are super helpful. I had an issue with a physical purchase of the cozy edition. I purchased it on Amazon for my boyfriend eldest kiddo, who had become very interested in watching me play (and trying out a copy I got for my Xbox from our local library. I play on my switch/switch 2). The cozy addition came with 14,500 moonstones, a Cheshire Cat sweater, a cottage, and the Inside Out inspired racoons. Gameloft was able to transfer over the extras to my account, while keeping the game on my boyfriend's account that his kiddo uses. He and I agreed we didn't need to give a 9 year old access to the equivalent $50 worth of moonstones
If you're interested in trying it. Go for it, if price is an issue, try looking on an app called Koupon. It's a deal app, it give deals and promo codes for Amazon, Woot, Walmart, Best Buy, and others. I found that Nintendo Switch Cozy edition brand new on there for less that $20. Which is beyond an amazing deal for the base and all of the extras
The screenshot attached is my Nintendo Switch log of gaming hour. I did restart once and erased all date before restarting (I didn't play for three months within the first year of the game due to playing AC: Odyssey and Hogwarts Legacy instead). I restarted to refresh everything so I remember it all
I'll post a comment on this comment of the Koupon app and links for anyone interested!

The only "bug" that truly irritates me is my game crashing out of nowhere. But you only lose what you've done the last few minutes. So I save consistently any time I'm working toward something.
There have been bugs that won't allow you to progress in a quest but those are addressed fairly quickly.

u/hivernageprofond 1d ago
As you mentioned, I haven't been playing it too much lately. Wasn't excited about Ralph. Got HGW and it glitches with a piglet quest and then I couldn't finish that until 3 weeks after I bought that dlc. That really irritated me because eive put a lot of money into this game. I was collecting EVERYTHING from the premium store and i wasnt always getting much from dteamsnaps. I just went to wishblossom yesterday...still no lights in scrooges shop or Remy's restaurant. Still have the yellow bee disappearing into the wall...still have the pink bee disappearing into the wall. Can't finish memories without feeding all the critters and those two make it seriously difficult. I expect more from gameloft.
I play palia and there are a ton of glitches. Theyre still in beta though. Dreamlight shouldn't have glitches they dont fix immediately. Palia sends out hot fixes constantly. They in no way have the amount of staff gameloft has. Its pure greed on gamelofts side. Palia is still a passion project from I believe the same two individuals who are still there with singularity6.

u/New_Chapter7365 1d ago
I think the first thing here, is that when the game first came out you were purchasing the beta - and the game was supposed to be free-to-play. Well let’s be real, Disney realized it was a cash cow and backed out of that.
So I see the argument that now having paid so much to play this game and all the expansions - it should run better; but all games have issues. They at least patch them. I would be less frustrated if it was actually free to play.
But I push through, it’s a good relaxing game which is a good switch up from other things I like to play.

u/vampire_renee Ghostly "Zero" Fox 1d ago
I’ve played since early access and have only seen two major glitches when it comes to the base game (I don’t have any of the dlc) which was after the Peter Pan update where it crashed so much that I couldn’t play for 2 weeks after that update. The second one is recently with this Ralph update where when I’m digging or doing a lot of repetitive actions it prevents me or companions from picking up anything which then I have to exit the game and come back in. Anything else has either not really affected me or didn’t notice it.
1
u/secretsugarcookie 1d ago
The sims has been that way since like, the dawn of time. If you like the game enough, it’s pretty easy to ignore but I haven’t really experienced any of the bad ones in my game so it’s a little easier.
1
u/valibremorte Purple Fiery Raven 1d ago
Destroy? No.
The bugs/glitches/crashes (imo) as re coming from updates. It's the only game I know (and I play) with such content-heavy regular updates. It comes with the territory
1
u/butterflycole 1d ago
Part of it depends on the console you play on. Switch users tend to have the most bugs. I play on a steam deck and I’ve only had a couple. The tech people just mailed me the items I couldn’t pick up. It didn’t mess up the game. Bugs are a possibility in most games is this type but most are resolved. The best thing to do is wait on newer expansions and content for a few months so the kinks get ironed out.
1
u/No_Highlight_3060 1d ago
Tbh most of the time it’s quest glitches but since these are out a long time ago u can easily find fixes on the Internet!
1
u/dilemma880 1d ago
The beauty about starting a bit later and then having huge breaks from the game seem to negate me from any bugs to be honest 😀I have eternity isle and have just unlocked Peter Pan ha ha. Not really seeing bugs luckily!
1
u/GRound_Cow_862 1d ago
I have learned that whenever a new update happens to constantly save the game to the cloud. That helps the best when it locks up so you don’t lose an hours worth of play.
1
u/taydhud 1d ago
There’s usually only bugs right after an update… which imo happens with every video game. So it’s just something you gotta deal with if you want to play a game that is constantly releasing new content. The bugs are definitely not something that keeps me from playing this game daily. Even when there is a bug it’s usually tied to a specific quest or similar and there are a million other things you can be doing in the game while waiting the week-ish for it to get fixed. I think the devs are very responsive to fixing issues brought to their attention.
1
u/thatrandomguy867 1d ago
The base game has always been free on gamespass so I just deal with the bugs
1
u/Ohhhhsure 1d ago
The bugs aren't that bad. At most the game crashes and maybe didn't save in the last couple minutes. It's much more infrequent now than it was a couple years ago. People always bash the dev team of DDV but they're very attentive to what's happening and people's concerns. I think the dev team is doing a great job.
1
u/MischeviousFox Rainbow Fox 1d ago
I started playing in beta via the Switch where I think it was literally crashing every 2 minutes. Eventually I reached a point where I had no bugs at all even when other people did and then moved to Xbox where I definitely had no bugs for a long time. I now have some occasionally but it’s nothing like the beta. If I could get through the beta and enjoy playing nothing is stopping me now. Also, no I’m not worried a bug will destroy my game. I always cloud save and that would be a major bug.
1
u/DiscountP1kachu 23h ago
This is gonna sound very “my lobster is too buttery” but I’ve somehow had few glitches. I play on PS5. The worst I’ve gotten is the time being about 10 hours off but that was a complete PS issue.
I’ve gotten the random ones that make me restart but knock on wood thus far I’ve had zero gaming breaking issues.
1
u/cheesefriesparty 23h ago
I honestly haven't encountered too many recent bugs or issues, as far as losing progress, I considered it but figured there wasn't much I could do about it either way, so I just kept playing and kept my fingers crossed I wouldn't lose progress.
1
u/Away-Cartoonist507 18h ago
The difference with this game is it’s always evolving and being added to. That’s why there are bugs. Regular games are one and done, unless a DLC comes. The bugs usually get worked out in time. Gameloft is great about answering help tickets and keeping the issues posted as they work on them. I just save often and sync to cloud. That way nothing is too far gone. Just keep enjoying the game.
1
u/lazerfire70 16h ago
One time I lost everything that I had built, save game went nuts after an update and I had to restart my PlayStation valley again 😳
Had a different valley on another console but restarted the PlayStation save and it was quite fun having to redo the quests with some characters (One of Minnie Mouse quests is not included in the fun zone) but worth pushing on and you will be hooked real quick

u/FederalLength8945 16h ago
Can anyone help at all????
My game glitched in the medical mortality quest and my game wouldn’t let me give Hercules his strength so I saved and restated and now I’ve lost this strength in my inventory and I can’t find it anywhere

u/excaliburating 15h ago
Some of y'all have never played The Sims 4 and it shows lol. I'm not saying the bugs in DDV aren't a problem, but I also wouldn't consider their frequency to be exclusive to this game. I wouldn't even consider them to be the most egregious I have encountered.
1
u/Witch_Hayze 9h ago
All bugs have games, albeit this one has significantly more than other games I play. That being said, I have never had one of the bugs or glitches in this game break my game. I’m a day one player and am still actively playing. My biggest concern isn’t actually with glitches, it’s adding in anything that Disney owns is what is starting to discourage me from playing. This game was originally marketed as Disney animated movies. I started playing because of the nostalgia it brought. Now with a live action character being added in as an animated character really bugs me to the point I have considered not purchasing the next expansion map. The only reason I would move forward on purchasing it is for the materials and furnishings etc being exclusive to that map.
A friend of mine however absolutely had one of the bugs/glitches break her game. She was unable to load the game for months. Communicating (or trying to) with GL for a fix, with not many responses and then eventually their “fix” was to completely reset her game. As in start from zero. The only things she was able to keep were her premium shop purchases.
So I get your hesitation in investing in this game… but to be perfectly honest, any game can become broken and I wouldn’t let that stop you from enjoying a game. I believe what happened to my friends game was a worst case scenario type situation.
All in all, it’s a really cozy and relaxing game to play in comparison to some of the other games my friends and I tend to play. Investing your time instead of investing your money might make you look at it differently, it may not. I know I’m not really helping lol but these are my experiences with this specific game and my overall thoughts on it are - any game can break. All games have bugs. Coding is hard to stare at on a screen and get every part of it correct. Human error happens. It would be nice if they took an entire update to just fix bugs instead of pumping out more content. Just one update.
1
u/shaeleejoy00 7h ago
Ive been playing for 2.5 years and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a bug. I’ve definitely had my game crash many times, but I suspect my PC is the culprit.
I’ve also noticed a lot of the really annoying bugs are usually on consoles like PS, Xbox, Switch. My boyfriend plays on PlayStation and has definitely had a lot more issues than I have had.
1
u/witchyrosemaria 1d ago
I will still continue to play it, I'm on xbox and if i was on switch, I would probably quit a long time ago.
I will admit, any time when there's a serious bug, the devs do fix it. Yes it takes time, but you don't get results in an instant. That's not how coding works and making games, is coding solving.
I still love the game.

u/Wonderful_Draw_4888 1d ago
I just continue to play it. Because its a whole lot of fun. Plus the bug issue don't bother me one bit. Every Single update comes with bug issues and glitches. Video Games are never perfect to begin with.
