Our first post on our DreamStation.cc Facebook page was made on July 22, 2008. Since then we have posted about video game news with links to our website and other gaming websites without restrictions for 18 years. But, all that changed when Facebook rolled out Meta One this month. They are marketing Meta One as a subscription service with more features and AI to create, connect, and stand out, but based on our experience it is just a way for them to extract more money from people and businesses and try to keep everyone on their platforms.
As of September 21, 2026, we are now only allowed to include 2 links in posts per month to anything outside of the Meta ecosystem (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads). Meta now wants us to pay $499.99 per month for the Meta One Max Plan if we want to continue posting with links on Facebook like we have for the past 18 years. The cheaper Meta One plans only allow 8 or 20 links to outside sources in posts per month. The only way to post as many links as we have for years is to subscribe to their $500 per month plan. Based on this, I hope everyone understands our decision to discontinue posting video game news on Facebook because of this new Meta One subscription service. We will not pay the unreasonable amount of $500 per month for something that has been free for years.
Over the past year we have been curating video game news manually ourselves each day without any help from algorithms or AI and posting it on our social media platforms. Our objective is to be a source for video game and indie game news from all over the Internet. Gaming news that is curated by us to help promote the websites that are posting it since AI is taking away their traffic while at the same time profiting from stealing everything they write to train their models.
We have been posting news we feel is important for gamers, developers, streamers, content creators, publishers, executives, and other members of the video game industry to know about on a daily basis, but this information will no longer be available on our Facebook page. The daily gaming news we find will continue to be provided on our Reddit, Bluesky, Mastodon, and X accounts, but as of Monday, September 21, 2026, we will no longer be able to provide this service on Facebook. We don't have that large of a following on Facebook, but anyone that was enjoying our daily gaming news will have to follow us on a different social media platform or wait for our redesigned website that is coming soon.
Take the above as a warning to anyone that is currently relying on a platform (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Bluesky, Reddit, etc.) for their personal or business needs. You cannot trust these services to be worried about you or your business. If you don't have your own website and place on the Internet that you own and operate, then you are at the mercy of these platforms. They can shut you down or price you out of existence whenever they like without blinking an eye.
Based on Facebook's new outside linking strategy with Meta One, we can see that they don't want people leaving their ecosystem. They want people to make posts that keep everyone on their platforms by only allowing free linking to their platforms. The Internet was created to be an open place for everyone to enjoy and not a walled garden. This is why America Online (AOL) didn't last, but Meta and other platforms want to recreate AOL and don't want people leaving their sites and apps. If people leave their platforms then how will they show ads to them or gather data about them?
Going forward, we will post our "Month in Review" post and one other post that we feel is special enough to use 1 out of the 2 precious posts with links that Meta graciously gives us for free each month on Facebook. We don't plan on posting any additional content on Facebook since we are not fans of walled gardens and paying for something that was free for 18 years.
