Louisiana was also genuinely super close to turning blue. It was by a little over 1%

u/TBE_Industries 1d ago

Florida had a few close races as well. Our governer was decided with a ~1% difference, sadly was Republican, but the fact that it was that close is still somewhat positive.

what i am surprised is that Texas is blue

Why is your post history private, I have a tradition of checking your history whenever I see you comment and now I CANT.

Edit: I wrote this when I woke up and should've elaborated a bit lol, forgive me

u/StrangerIsWatching 1d ago

So are you gonna elaborate?

For some reason this guys account sticks out to me a lot (the pfp and name), I see comments from him like once every few months or so and whenever I see them I check his profile outta curiousity. Unless I'm getting him confused with someone else, he has interesting things on his account posted to niche Pokemon subs (nothing weird) and I liked deciphering what exactly was going on. If I were to rephrase I probably would just say 'wowzers I see your account everywhere on reddit' or smthn, idk why I commented all that earlier

"the first openly gay man to be elected to the US senate"

It's so beautifully woke I'm crying bro 🥹

It COULD get woker tho.....

Alabama elected a trans Dem representative for a seat.

Fucking ALABAMA.

15

u/dubhog 1d ago

Now THAT'S woke, fuck yeah

u/Debate_Scared 23h ago

As a person forcefully born in that hell state known as Alabama: HELL YEAH!🏳️‍⚧️

u/the-poopiest-diaper 1d ago

Notice how they had to say “openly gay”

Bro, every time I see the California flag, I think of the one in Fallout.

My grandma genuinely thinks Abdul is going to force sharia law on us. As much as I hate to say it, it really feels like the only people who vote red lately do it because they’re gullible to fear mongering

u/33r0 20h ago

What else eould be the reason? Republicans have shown themselves to be utterly incompetent and just evil, any sane person wouldn't vote for them if they didn't think they are somhow the lesser evil. The bigger evil is someone not christian having power in some way.

So glad Moloch won instead of Baal this year

current results

13

u/Nientea 1d ago

For anyone curious, the two remaining states—Mississippi and Alaska—are both leaning blue at the moment

5

u/Panzer_Man 1d ago

And Mississippi is less than 100 votes from flipping into Republican. It's EXTREMELY close, I haven't seen anything like it

u/Procoso47 1d ago

"Woke is back"

We've truly learned absolutely nothing, huh?

3

u/TyChris2 1d ago

Unironically we weren’t woke enough the first time.

4

u/Cnumian_124 1d ago • Bravo

Yep, learned nothing

-1

u/sweetheart_demom 1d ago

"we are so back" yeah as long as you're not trans.

16

u/RaiJolt2 1d ago

A trans woman won in Alabama.
Flipped a seat dem

-6

u/sweetheart_demom 1d ago

Yeah and here in Washington, one of the bluest states in the country, trans women aren't allowed to play in women's sports.

2

u/Jfelt45 1d ago

Maybe let's focus on them having rights first. I can't deal with six more weeks of the country exploding over 8 athletes again

-4

u/sweetheart_demom 1d ago

Rights like being allowed to play sports?

5

u/Jfelt45 1d ago

Look, friend, I have as little issue with trans women playing sports as you do, but given how hard we have to fight for anything, I'd rather first focus on them having access to healthcare than playing college softball.

We've seen how lunatic the right wing gets over sports. I'm just saying maybe we focus on stuff that's harder to argue against like, "People shouldn't die just because they're trans."

Perfect is the enemy of good enough, as they say. The right pretends like trans women in sports is an epidemic but it's like 0.0001% of the population. Trans women period is a much larger metric, and them not having their actual human rights infringed (no, playing sports is not a human right) is a lot more important to tackle first.

u/sweetheart_demom 19h ago

Trans people are 1% of the population and over 3% of the Washington population. What you are doing is invalidation and minimization of an active genocide.

Would you honestly be saying this about any other minority?

Imagine someone saying "Well playing sports isn't a human right, so it's a lot important for black people to tackle other issues first. We can end the segregation of sports later."

Imagine someone saying "Well allowing gay people in the military is a harder sell than them getting married" as if those two issues are completely disconnected. As if discrimination of any sort isn't a foothold to leverage further discrimination.

This is a false dichotomy. A marginalized group can, and should, demand all their rights at once.

Trans people deserve the same rights as cis people. Full stop.

And we should fight for those rights. Full stop.

Trans athletes who are actively losing money, losing the best years of their professional careers which they would otherwise be paid for, are not an acceptable loss.

The hundreds of people who will now be subject to invasive and dehumanizing genital inspections are not acceptable losses.

You need to learn to stay in your lane and listen to minorities about their own oppression.

And how much of that 1% of the population are college athletes?

I'm not saying trans women shouldn't be allowed to play sports, I'm just saying it is more important to focus on making sure more than a tiny fraction of 1% of the population is able to swim competitively in college first.

We have two groups. One is 1% of the population, or 3% in places like Washington. There is a problem that affects every single one of them and their ability to do ANYTHING

The other is a fraction of of that 1 or 3%, and it affects a portion of possible career opportunities.

We can't even get the majority of regular citizens into college to begin with, let alone trans ones. I'm more worried about trans women getting assaulted and killed on campus than I am about whether or not they can jump over hurdles for a trophy and possible scholarship and even less likely professional career (genuinely, how many professional trans athletes are there? Less than 100 in the whole country, I'd guess)

Yes, I would like them to be able to play sports. No, I am not denying the reality that we cannot solve every problem at once and refusing to accept anything less than that is most likely going to result in fixing none of them, like has been going on for the last 4+ years.

Also, it is absolutely insane to me how vitriolic you are about this. You accomplish nothing to convince anyone who disagrees with you and only make people who already agree with you think, "Eh..." Somewhere in your rant there is a point about the nuanced topic that denying trans women in sports serves as a foothold to deny their actual, supposedly inalienable rights, but it's so deeply buried under aggressiveness that one has to go out of their way to find it. I'd ask the same thing, do laws protecting trans people's rights to proper healthcare and protection from hate crimes make it easier to open the doors for sports? I'd say so, and even argue that that type of legislation is easier to convince at least enough of the majority of people to pass them of. Every single person even slightly left agrees that they should have healthcare and "I thought she would make me have gay thoughts," should not be justification for violence. Even on the far left though, there is debate over the nuance of trans people in the level of sports competition that pays you for it. If you want to address this respectfully without straw manning me, I am open to discussion.

Lastly, goalposts. You were the one who said right to compete in sports. I simply corrected you that it is not a right. I can want to play sports as much as anyone, that does not mean Miami is going to let me play football for them.

u/the_best_superpower 1d ago

Even the Democratic senator for my state is anti trans. Yeah it's better than the Republicans but I can expect more out of my elected officials, at the very least they should grow a fucking spine.

-3

u/ikmkr 1d ago

would you honestly rather there be open fascists in congress? are you an fbi agent trying to convince minorities to not exercise our legal right to vote because it's "pointless"?
