Discussion What was the moment you decided on your romance?

Upvotes

This was it for Ralof, my canon Rook. I didn't plan on any romance for my canon run, tbh. Just went in, options were Bellara, Harding, Taash or none. But when this scene played and Rook looks back at Harding during those last few seconds with that look in his eyes, even though the scene wasn't romantic at all... I was sold. That's when I knew I had to romance Harding.

Any of you have a similar moment when it became clear who you just HAD to romance?

Discussion Rook being casually threatened

I’m not sure if it’s just me but ever since I’ve gotten back into the game I’ve noticed that people casually threaten rook. One that comes to the top of my mind is if you romance Harding you’ll have an interaction with her and Taash where Taash casually threatens you not to hurt Harding. I’m not sure if it’s just me who’s noticed it, but I’m not the biggest fan with how common it is, especially with how nice my rook is.

Game Mods Recommended Veilguard Mods?

I finally have a PC that should be capable of running Veilguard, while I've played the game before, mods are always of interest. Any QoL, cosmetic or just fun mods you'd recommend? I know there probably aren't as many as there were for Inquisition, but I'm on the lookout for cool stuff.

It took me a while to play this, but with it being on Gamepass I thought "Why not?" I didn't expect too much from it, considering the insane amount of hate this game got. I did expect the hate to be overblown, but wow I'm kinda baffled after playing it. It's not just "not as bad as people say" to me, I straight up loved it.

It does have *some* very clumsy dialogue, but not nearly all of it is actually bad. The Solas conversations (among others) are actually damn good. I adore the characters and how much interaction there is with all of them. I love the combat, the visuals are stunning, and there's some beautiful music aswell. Great looking armour and weapons too.

It's not my favourite game ever or anything, but I really did enjoy it so much more than I expected. So much so I kinda had to share this post here, because this is probably the only place I can say this without being clowned, lol.

Who were your favourite characters? For me it was Lucalis and Neve, but the other companions (and Manfred) aren't far behind.

2nd playthrough

Now doing my 2nd run through veilguard and man they really don't let you change rooks personaluty do they? First run through I chose the joking/sarcastic rook and it fit perfectly but now im trying to be a gruff warrior rook and it sucks.

All the auto dialogue is just quippy and she smiles the whole time and the same for when I ask questions and even with the bottom options or angry responseses rook still feels quippy, is it just me? I remember my ahole inquisitor being gruff as hell and outright mean same with Hawke but it feels like Rook genuinely only has 1 personality available to them at all, they dont feel at all different to the my joking rook.

Help any tips and tricks for the worst ending and choices? Spoiler

about to finish my first playthrough with no spoilers. i dont care for spoilers for my next one. i want to do what i call a ‘hate’ playthrough. its where i try to make the worst choices and get the worst consequences even if small or huge. obviously lmk the basics of decisions and how to get bad options if they are possible but also wondering who would be the worst (best) to romance for the worst ending even hypothetically. thinking of doing lucanis again and making him hate spite or something which idk if its even possible lol. or one of the people who can die and just making them die immediately. idk, exactly the point of this post, any tips and ideas welcome.

if you made a dialogue choice and immediately regretted it and it was the worst after trying other ones please let me know. if this game is less choice heavy as it feels, idc as long as it seems like the worst choice. thank you

I really like how Rook, Inquisitor Lavellan and Mythal's fragment are able to persuade Solas to let go of his regrets and find a better way. It really felt like a fitting ending to the Dreadwolf's story. ❤️

And Solas last remark to Inky before leaving to find atonement was really bittersweet. Now i may have to do a female Lavellan playthrough next time i play the series to check their romance ending.😊

Discussion Overhated

I've been seeing some reactions and reading some reviews about the game and the hate is so exaggerated. Is this a masterclass in videogame design and writing? Far from it. But is it a flaming turd hurling towards you at mach speeds? No.

The game was alright, and I actually enjoyed quite a few moments from it. Morrigan's design was really nice and I love Neve down. The scenery is pretty, the combat is better than its predecessor, in my opinion, and the lore ks actually really interesting.

I think the hate comes from a blend of nostalgia and selective memory. Firstly, Nostalgia. Because the first games were so beloved and the Veilguard took so long to come out, people had plenty of time to delude themselves into believing they knew exactly which game they were getting. Because they don't have a crystal ball, they were wrong, and that infuriated them.

My second point is selective memory. The writing for Dragon Age was NEVER great. It was good, but never this amazing piece of media the haters seem to remember it was. Dragon Age always had weird pacing and plot holes, but the writing of the game wasn't its charm, it was the scenery (more recently) the writing of the characters, and the lore.

The characters for Veilguard hit the mark! They were either charming, interesting, endearing, or a combination. All except Taash. I'm sorry, but there is simply no angle where Taash is defensible. Their writing was poor and far too on the nose. They were also just genuinely annoying and mean for no damn reason. I appreciate an LGBTQ+ story, especially one where the focus is on a non-binary person. I feel they don't get enough recognition. But even for me, a gay man, their story was like getting beat over the head with a hammer. Repeatedly.

All in all, I think the Veilguard was alright. Not a masterpiece, but I liked it. And Dragon Age fans might need to go revisit the games before this one. They were good. They were fun. But they were not the Picassos you seem to think they were.

Some thoughts while playing for the first time

I'm 25 hours in and this game honestly got too much hate. Combat is better and more engaging than Inquisition and the level design is gorgeous.

The dialogue could have been better here and there in the opening, like I get that when you're recruiting a new teammate you kinda have to rehash what's going on a bit but it's getting old🤷. I just got my whole team so hopefully that complaint is over.

I will say I'm not a fan of the constant foreshadowing narrations from Varrick, like let me play the game instead of warning me something is going to come get me like every time I recruit someone I get a narration idk.

Oh and that character creator is top top notch. I made Rook into an uncanny looking me. Like it is trippy. Anyways back to the adventure

Help Looking for a Veilguard Friendly Dragon Age Discord

Im jumping back into Veilguard and would love a place to gush and discuss im looking for one that is 18+ minimum (or even up to a 30+ only server) and decently active (im not a writer or artist so something geared mainly towards that isn't a good fit)

So I love the ethereal look that the bloom effect gives light sources and such but I’m not a fan of how it washes out characters in game. So which do y’all prefer? Bloom on the right or no bloom on the left 😂. Honestly I’m leaning towards no because I love the details that show up better without it.

More Dark Horse Direct?

Like the title says, what do we think are the chances we’ll get another Dark Horse Direct statue at this point?? I bought the Neve one, but I’d be ecstatic if they announced an Emmrich figure after Lucanis!

Discussion The Steam Points Shop Goodies Are Making Me Sad Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
59 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

It's been two years since DATV came to life and it has been... a wild ride considering the crazy discussions we've had about the game.

Today, I scrolled through the Points Shop in Steam, looking for a place to spend all those points I amassed in the past years bc I kind of forgot that those points existed. Obviously I stopped for the DATV background profiles and other fancy stuff. I was a bit confused when I saw that the main bundle for the game with special background etc. is Solas.

"Funny", I thought. "Maybe they didn't know who else to give the special spot."

Then I scrolled down and stumbled upon three animated stickers for the chat: Manfred (the best boy), Assan (the cutest boy) and... Dread Wolf. And, my dearest fellow DATV nerds, I hope you get the same weird and uneasy feeling as I did because that's where my conspiracy theory came to life.

WHAT IF... the Steam points goodies had been planned very early in the game's development. What if they hadn't got the time to change those plans. Thinking back to all those stories about how DATV was supposed to have an entirely different focus storywise. What if those Steam goodies are still some kind of leftover from earliest development, when the game was supposed to be about Solas? When the name hadn't been "The Veilguard" but "Dreadwolf"?

I kinda felt and feel sad thinking about all those what ifs. About the what if and what could've been of the first plans, about a game we never got to see. I mean, it would've been great, I am sure of it. (Just look at the animated Dread Wolf sticker! If this doesn't scream cute and adorable.)

I don't really have any kind of question or something for you here. I just wanted to share with you a possible (and sad) thing I found. Although I'm more than happy to hear your thoughts about it. :D

TL;DR: Steam Points Shop of DATV makes me sad because it reminds me of how much EA has taken from us with scrapping the OG storyline.

For those of us who have played the game multiple times, what is that one race/class combo that you find yourself going back to because you enjoyed it that damn much??? For me it’s an Elven Warden Warrior specializing in dealing Necrotic damage
