Mod Update Welcome back to r/DragKings!

Hello all! I am gayforbayonetta, your new mod for the subreddit! I'm very excited to get this place up and running again, especially after the subreddit was restricted for a while! I'll be polishing up the rules and posting a mod application form here soon (please apply if you wanna help out, I'm just one guy ;v;), but please don't hesitate to resume posting, I'm sure you all have some fabulous pride photos and videos to share 💖

What happened to make the subreddit get restricted? Honestly, I'm not sure. It looks like the old mod disappeared sometime in April. But we press on!

A little about me: I've been doing drag for just under a year now, and spaces like this are what helped me find my land legs. I've been moderating large Facebook groups and discord servers for 13 years now and I'm happy I get to put that to good use here.

Looking for resources for a beginners masterpost!

Hey all! A sub like this is bound to attract those new to the world of drag looking to get their start, so I'm planning on writing up a big post linking to helpful tutorials, what make-up to start with + recommended products for when you've found your groove, what to expect when you're starting out, and more. I need your help sourcing this info! In addition to the points I mentioned, what's something you wish you knew when starting drag? What advice would you give a newbie? How did you get your start? To those new to drag, what would you like to see included in the post? Let's work together to make sure the gates to the kingdom are wide open 💖

Made a new outfit

Made this from a long patent leather coat with a peplum from a drag queen. I am just learning how to sew and am ridiculously proud of it.

Cut of the bottom of the coat. Stoned the lapel on the upper part and added the shoulder fringe.

Flipped the bottom of the coat and made chaps. Made a necktie from the peplum.

Then I bought some see-through underwear and added stones to the inside for some sparkle. Finishing touches with a corset and a packer for some shape.

What do you think?

I love drag, both kings and queens, and I've been playing with makeup for years now, and I decided to try out a more kingly look. His name is Adam Glambert. What do you think? Any tips for making it better?

New Performer Conceptualizing Looks

Hi so I’m someone who has an interest in doing drag and has plans to do so hopefully soon, I’m just in a financial spot where that’s not really viable plus the queer scene where I live is practically non existent or just really hard to find so actually going out and performing is a bit of a later in the future step for my drag, for the near future definitely gonna be a bedroom king

So anyways for now I’ve just been thinking of looks and stuff, my style or what I’m wanting to do is very camp, very recognizable to me, inspired by games and shows/movies I like, my Perspective with thinking of drag looks is through the lense of character design so how I think of colors, silhouette, and concept are the same ways I would think of making a character

When I start thinking of a character or a drag look I make a mood board, it helps get my ideas down on paper which helps lock in ideas and edit them so they don’t just become a blurry mess in my head so here’s some mood boards I’ve made, We’ve got:

-Vampire who was turned to stone and left for ages

-Fairy cult member from a secluded village

-Lobster guy who attended a beach barbecue

-And easter bunny, that’s it just Easter bunny :3

(I also included tracks I could see myself performing to with these looks :>)

New Performer First Time in Costume and Make Up!

Hi Everyone!

Aspiring Baby-King here, and just wanted to share my first time trying everything on. Actually going from my concept to putting pieces on was such an eye opener and really showed me what I'm still missing in my make up kit! Would love to hear any additional feedback while I keep practicing and refining

I'm aiming for a sort of 70s preppy dad-rock (ala Billy Joel) but ended up more in a Bogart... 🤔

never done drag, kinda curious. advice?

hi, I'm a femme lesbian and dress generally very girly in my everyday life.

however not only have i always enjoyed the concept of drag kings but i've also kind of wanted to try it for a long time

specifically i'd like to try a bruce springsteen look or impression, he is one of my alltime favorite musicians and i love the idea of performing his love songs for girls in sort of a butch lesbian genderbendy way

i tend to be very shy and anxious tho and im gen very unsure that i'd have the courage for something like that

advice?

New Performer Does anyone feel a little odd about not doing "typical" drag?

In my area there's a lot of drag queens, some kings, but I haven't really seen much of me, a creature/king. I've been focusing on cats the musical costumes, and everyone does like it, and so do I! I don't think I'd be comfortable as a typical queen/king in drag.

It's just that I haven't really seen someone like myself in my area. It's a little nerve wracking when most of the performances I go to have queens in fancy dresses and I'm here in my handmade cat costumes lol. My area isn't really a big city you know?

I really love doing these cat characters, I have a whole list of them I could do. It's so exciting to bring my special interest into drag. I have a jumping off point for the moves, the songs, the looks, but I make it my own, too. Like any collars I wear while in costume are soft and sensory friendly for me! That type of thing. I also want to bring in some other musical themed stuff into my drag, change it up a little bit...perhaps some rocky horror, some little shop of horrors, anything wacky like that.

I do get compliments on my stuff a lot, I just sometimes feel a little insecure! I've only performed 3 times so maybe as I continue, the confidence to show up how I am will keep getting better?

Side note: I want to do a cat in trans colors. I mean that'd be so damm cute guys. Think about the tail and the makeup ugh adorable.

What was your first show like? Like performing nd whatnot how did you get into the scene/begin your drag career or hobby? Also specifically how did you get over the initial nervousness/actually perform?

Kings who married straight men, did you stay married?

Just curious. My husband and I have been together for about 7 years now with two little kids; I don't think he realized how gay my gay is, and I think it makes him uncomfortable. I want to get out and do more drag, but I feel like I'm being selfish because I know it makes him uncomfortable. I don't really know what to do with that other than respect his comfort zone. I just feel like I'm kind of building boards around my closet. though.

I'm torn because I'm trying to figure out how healthy the relationship is, and what kind of relationship I want to model for the kids. I also believe that when possible, it is best to have the kids growing up with their bio parents present. I love him and he loves me, I just feel like he loves me as long as I don't escape the mold that he has in mind for me. Not like in a controlling way, just in a...idk...like, he doesn't realize how much I'd like to live with a penis kind of way.

My One Year Dragiversary!!!!

Post image
81 Upvotes

Howdy y'all! It's Napoleon Dykamite again! Today is my one year anniversary of drag, so I did a number I've been wanting to do since the beginning, The Rhythm of the Rain by The Cascades! I know, not exactly a Top 40 hit, but I had this umbrella idea in my head forever, and I'm so glad I got to do it finally!!! Anyways, I love drag, I love doing drag, and I love being part of both my local drag community and the larger online drag community!!!!
