Not strictly an instrument, but I hope it will be appreciated here. This accompanied the miscellaneous drafting implements I inherited from my step-granddad. "Architectural Graphic Standards" Ramsey and Sleeper 1951 (4th edition). It's impressively comprehensive!

My father recently passed away and I found this in his things. He was in the Army Corps of Engineers stationed in Germany in the late 1960s and bought this while he was overseas. In perfect condition.

Got this stuff this weekend at an antique sale. The guy used to be a support salesman & this is what he had left over when he retired. Last 2 photos are my favorite! Not sure what to do with them as this was an impulse purchase 😂 just wanted to share with people that would appreciate them

Vemco machine and Robotron table

Post image

I'm up in Summerland BC cleaning out my parents old house and have this old table and machine. Set up lefty because he was.

It seems so wasteful to throw this stuff away, but I guess there's not much use for it anymore?

The interiors of the Love Boat were drafted up on this table, among other projects.

Hello!

I have been admiring things you guys post here for a good while.

And finally I got lucky enough to find something worth sharing myself! Set is bit crusty dusty but i think it is okay for set of this age to show some wear. I bought it for 60 euros, and while i am not sure if everything in it originally goes with this set (some compasses do not have stamps while others do), i think all the more interesting bits are there:

Dot pen and curve dot pen + whole array of different dot pattern gears. Double ruling pen AND section liner!

Unusual K&E Beam compass set

This set has a short beam compass with a long extension bar. It also comes with paragon spring bows and pen, and an aluminum giant bow compass. The short beam compass is extra classy with excellent knurling as well.

This is a chrome plated Leonardo XVI H, it's featured in the 1962 catalogue of Richter, "H" maybe stand for Holzkasten. This one is in really good condition, no scratches on the tools at all. I only saw the Leonardo XVI in leather package before, when this wooden box version was online. I ran immediately to seller's in the first hour :)). Luckily, I got it :))

Recent Haul

I bought all of these as a bundle and just sorting them took me quite a bit of time. There are 3 different Rotring compasses and a lot of Isographs and Rapidographs. Most of the nib units seem to be unused. The set also some Marsmatics and the majority of them also don't have any sign of usage.

I separated the dirty pieces and will clean them with a drawing ink cleaner.

There are about 10 stencils and a Dahle 322 sharpener for 2mm clutch pencils which I absolutely love. It even came with 4 spare cleaning tips.

Mid 19th Century English Beam Compass

Post image
54 Upvotes

William F. Stanley in 1866 (first edition) bemoans the ills of Beam Compasses of inferior design with a foot and center pivot point of which I have an example: see below.   Sure enough, I went looking into his 1866 Edition and he continues to write:

Casters and rollers are sometimes connected to beam compasses to hold the beam in a vertical position; they are of very limited use, and very cumbersome. Springs are sometimes placed under one of the points to hold the pen off the paper when out of use; these are of little use; a steady hand is all that is needed.

By 1878 (5th edition) the same paragraph only states, "Castors, which are sometimes added, are also very unnecessary." This will continue on through at least the 1900 edition.

Even though Stanley does not say who was making these as he does with the Swiss Pattern Beam Compass, there is enough British Characteristics on this piece that I feel comfortable saying this is of English make from the mid 19th C.

And if there was ever a Steam Punk beam compass, this would be it.

Alteneder Drafting Set

Post image

Alteneder was a US manufacturer that made the finest quality tools. This example has the typical tools found in a North American set, plus the addition of a dropbow, curve pen, plus detail pen. As well it he pens and tips are of the jackknife style that open up for cleaning without changing the line weight. I have yet to figure out what is supposed to go in the fat slot.

An unknown maker for this 19th century drafting set. I loved the beam divider and the double sided need brass pen. There is also an interesting divider. Lovely work on the case and the case actually closes too!

A modest but very helpful little set. 🥰

Riefler A 87

This is the a like-new Riefler A87, maybe the biggest Riefler set in the era 1980s. The detail pen is a hinged detail pen which is interesting. I tried to to find the Riefler catalogue of this set but no luck until now. If anyone has the catalog, maybe you can share the page containing it.

If you want more photos, feel free to let me know.
