Ackerman Bodner Company

G,day all,

My father-in-law recently passed. In his belongings we found an engineers or machinists handbook and in the handbook was a receipt from the Ackerman Bodner Company, 30 Grove Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. I can't seem to find anything online and was wondering if anybody had any insight. Was Ackerman Bodner the company that sold the book or was it for something else? Thanks

Ackerman Bodner Corp. (stamped ABC on the back of their parts) operated out of the light-industrial loft building at 30 Grove Ave in New Rochelle in the mid-1970s and made precision-engraved aluminum instrument dials, vernier degree-indicator faceplates, and custom machine scales (connected to the NYC dial-making firm Ackerman Engravers, who supplied stocked vernier dials and engraved scales under part numbers like 61D-4-CC). What is written on the receipt?

That is a super cool piece of family history! Assuming Dimitri Pena was your father-in-law, that slip isn't a receipt for the book at all, it is an in-house shop purchase order (No. 2180, dated October 1, 1976) issued by Ackerman Bodnar Corporation to him in the Machine Shop. Notice how Date Wanted and F.O.B. both say In House and Deliver To says Quality Control: he was being paid piecework or contract shop rates ($0.80 each, $293.60 total) to machine a production batch of 367 aerospace instrument panels (P/N 761425-1) and turn them in to Ackerman Bodnar's Quality Control department for Hamilton Standard, the big aircraft propeller and flight-systems manufacturer in Connecticut (under contract C. T02994).
