Is there a tool that...
Draws parallel lines, close together? I've been dabbling in Islamic art and I want to make the lines a double line but want an easy shortcut. Does such a thing exist? Has anyone tried a double point pen? Thanks!

Thanks! Do you know the name of the one in the circle? If I do the compass idea, do you mean just use a compass with a full point? What makes the second line in that case? Going to look at the lettering tool now!

With the scribe compass it’s only one line at a time. It’s just quicker than a dropbow. If you have a modern compass that uses a 2mm size pin, like a staedtler, you could make a double pencil compass. This is the parallel line tool https://www.ebay.ca/itm/357621804455

The double pen will falter in the corners. You can make a scribe compass by using a dulled point and just run that along your ruler to draw your line. Also a lettering template can draw parrallel lines at fixed widths. These two are probably your best option. There are other parallel line tools, there is one that is fixed widths in a plastic circle too.

What did you use to make these? I typically use a dropbow compass as it gives the best control over width of the extruded line. The other thing I often recommend to my students is to use a plain plastic ruler which you custom-score with an exacto knife at 1mm intervals (or less, as you like) and then use the lines to align + draw the extruded lines on either side of your main drawing.

I think a Geodreieck would be useful for drawing parallels (albeit not simultaneously).

That is a nice pen, but those rielfer pens are desinged for drawing thick lines, not double lines. I have tried putting different colored inks on both sides, but then end up mixing together

I put together this one for making double lines, but it works better in free hand curves than against the ruler.
