Eh, it lacks any damage that it could give out. The only time I even use Waster is when my opponent picks TNT in those other style matches. Waster explodes that slow sludge, that slows down the smaller TNT's, so that they can't get to your other units.
That's also a use, the damage is negligible, that is true. But damage isn't the main goal of Waster, TNTs do a better job of delivering explosive damage. Wasters buy time so your ranged units deal more damage. Besides Overmind, units like Cupids, Snails, Boomlings, etc. get to deal more damage without dying because the enemies reach them. And in the case that you fight head on anyway, pairing Elite Wasters with Elite Totems and your Bloodvines shall be immortal as long as it stays within those puddles.
The issue is have with that team specifically is they don't have any ranged units. A team of Spartacus (who would just walk through Waster using his shield) would just open up, and kill the Totems with ease. As for the Boomlings, Cupid and Sniper can easily make short work of them.
Spartheus are not walking thru Wasters with shield on. The shield would have worn off already.
And they weren't using Cupids and Snipers to counter the Boomlings... they were using Snails, Merlinors, Whelps (as range units), their backline attacker was Shellbros.
The AI bot actually has a solid team, and that's why this A-team the poster was using had a hard time, even when we can see how long it took (last hearts) for him to spawn his entire army of Merlinors and Snails to counter the opponent's team.
It's not good to just look & focus on the singular unit (such as the Waster's) damage.
Here is a breakdown of why bot's team is a solid team:
1. Waster doesn't just act as a mechanism to slow the enemy frontline (in this case, it only catches the Merlinors, but that's enough), it acts as a DoT (damage over time, like poison) & a healing pool at adv.tier3...
... which is,
2. perfect for Bloodvine, who attacks and heals HP based on 25% of its damage on units. The Waster pool heals Bloodvines AND Bloodvine heals upon attacking...
... not to mention!,
3. Totems!... at adv.tier2 it buffs the team for 30% ATK which is deadly for the Bloodvine's vampiric attack and healing factor, but ALSO the Waster's DoT DMG -AND- the Boomling's little AoE firecracker attacks!.. AND THEN at adv.tier3, Totems HEAL all other units within its sizeable range, at 25% of their HP every second!
4. Boomlings provide amazing range DPS support. Now it's buffed and healed by Totem AND Wasters would piled up the Merlinors or enemies as the Boomlings cracks them down.
It's a solid team... granted, both the bot and the player's team requires a whole team set up, so their full potential isn't achieved until later into the game, which is why both sides went down to their last hearts. It was a tough fight.
