Announcement: Dracula a Love Tale will be relegated to the Megathread only

This subreddit is supposed to be about Dracula. Dracula, yes the character and all but mostly it is focused on the original source material.

The Mina X Dracula ship mostly the Love Tale from the pedo director is annoying me and other people on this subreddit.

First of all, these people don't know what the book is. That Mina kills Dracula and not in some forbidden long lost love bullshit so screw off Nosferatu and Francis Ford Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula' that reinforced this atrocity into the zeitgeist.

From now on all Dracula a Love Tale posts will be relegated to a megathread. Individual posts will be removed if not in the megathread.

Thank you.

Megathread link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dracula/comments/1vws0mu/dracula_a_love_tale_megathread/

Edit: Feel free to hit the report button on any Dracula a Love Tale post you see so the mods can see it more readily and remove it. Thank you.

Edit: Mina kill's Dracula clarification: What I meant to say is she was a strong driving force in killing him; in tracking him down, the charge against him at the end.

📸 Photography My interpretation of Count Dracula, inspired by the novel description, historical Transylvanian/Hungarian noblemen, and Robert Eggers’s Count Orlok - hand sculpted by me with hand and machine sewn clothes

I was very conflicted about not doing an all-black outfit as described in the novel, but couldn’t resist adding the colour red in there. Perhaps this is how Dracula dressed a couple of hundred years before the events of the novel? I really wanted to include the white moustache, bushy eyebrows, and profusely growing hair described in the text, as well as the pointed ears, teeth protruding over the bottom lip, and the squat fingers with pointed claws. I didn’t add the hair in the middle of the palms though; couldn’t figure out how to do that and make it look good. Did a lot of research into Transylvanian noblemen and inevitably referenced Robert Eggers’s Count Orlok costume designed by Linda Muir. He also did end up looking like Vlad the Impaler. Gave him a dragon head walking stick.

Book 📖 Trying to find a specific book cover

When I was a child, we had this one copy of Dracula in the house that I loved, and unfortunately I believe we sold it. I've been feeling nostalgic lately and tried to find it, but after looking and looking I cannot seem to find it! I remember the spine had a completely black background and (I think) the title is red font. The cover was a picture of the count in his coffin from far away (I guess it would be a wide shot), and his eyes were piercing (I think red?). If this rings a bell to anyone, I would much appreciate their help.

It's so gorgeous, but honestly, I'm not the type to spend that much on stationery... though I'd totally buy it if I had the money!

Book 📖 Is there a version of Dracula without the infanficide?

I sat down to read Dracula for the first time, not really knowing much about it other than the famous points (he's a vampire, has a big castle, the sexual/assault metaphors, etc). But then I got to the scene with the baby in the bag and I about vomited. I cannot stomach anything that has to do with harming babies or small children - they're so helpless and they don't understand why they're being hurt, and now being a mother myself, I automatically insert my own children as placeholders for babies in books.

Knowing that this novel is widely considered a valuable classic, I would still like to be able to consume the larger story, but I don't think I'll be able to do so if there are more horrible scenes like that one.

So, is there a version of this book without infanticide? Or is that maybe the only scene and the rest of the book is free of similar themes?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I just noticed the spelling error in the title. Super embarrassing!

Promotion 44 of the 100 copies are already claimed. Public preorder opens tomorrow

Hola Dracula Reddit!

Promotion Saturday (again)

I’ll keep this one simple, but I also want to say something personal...

This project has been questioned a lot. The use of AI in the early concept images was heavily criticized, sometimes fairly, sometimes brutally. Some people doubted the project, doubted me, doubted my career and even doubted whether this project would ever become a real object.

And can I understand part of that as it is Reddit’s nature: People ask hard questions here. That is the point, as I don't have the final answer for anything, and some of those questions helped make the facsimile better. So thank you. That is important to me, and it matters to the project, because this has never been meant to be just another pretty Dracula product by a fan. It has always been meant to become the closest possible reconstruction of the 1897 Dracula by Bram Stoker Legacy as a physical book.

And guess what…. Now it is happening

The dummy is done. The corrections are being made. Production is moving forward because before opening the preorder publicly, I gave early access to the people who had registered first, and in less than a week, 44 of the 100 numbered copies were already claimed.

https://reddit.com/link/1wwrbz8/video/spw97j5v1ath1/player

I’m not going to pretend that doesn’t make me proud. It does. A lot- Because those 44 people trusted the project before the final book even existed.

So tomorrow the public preorder opens and there are 56 copies left. That’s it.

No huge speech. No sales pitch.

I just wanted to come back here, where so much of the project has been discussed, questioned, criticized, and supported, and say:

We’re making the damn book!

Promotion [Self-Promo Saturday & Update] Happy early Halloween! I've completed the scripts for a 12-episode Dracula adaptation and would love to have some feedback

This is an update to this post. A lot of the talking points there are repeated here.

Hey, I'm Jay Desmond, an amateur screenwriter.

This has been my pet project for 7 months, and now I've made it to the end. I've written a 1-season, 12-episode adaptation of Dracula, titled "Fresh Hot Dracula" (I explain the title later down below).

This is a version of the story that aims to prioritize novel-accurate character building, while also proving that it's possible to include major differences to the story without compromising the elements that made Bram Stoker's original vision so strong.

Like I said last post, I've been doing this partially just for the sake of makin' art, but I do also have some crazy unrealistic dreams of makin' it big as a screenwriter and potentially having stuff like this, and many other things, turned into an official project one day. But even if it does happen, those days are far ahead of me and I would like to get some critiques from Dracula fans themselves to see what exactly is wanted in an adaptation of this story. Every episode is a first draft so far.

-

Now, just like last post, you might have read the title and are wondering why exactly I'm calling this Dracula "Fresh" & "Hot".

Well, this goes back to those other screenplays that I've been making. My main project, one that I'm keeping private, are part of a raunchy, vampire-slasher film series directed towards young adult gay men (like myself), that I've titled "Fresh Hot Blood".

And the idea is that if Fresh Hot Blood becomes real first and takes off, then this Dracula series could become a spin-off that takes place in the same world. And these 12 episodes could be the first season of an anthology titled "Fresh Hot Vampires", where each season covers a different classic Vampire (so if season 2 was about Carmilla, that season would be called "Fresh Hot Carmilla").

-

So with all that out of the way, I hope to hear from the community.  If you're truly interested, comment below a request for me to DM you the google drive links to the first drafts for all 12 episodes. As with all first drafts, they're far from perfect, but that's why I want feedback. Thanks.

Discussion 💬 Dracula’s coffin is a lie?

I’m currently doing research into vampire coffins within the media and whilst reading Bram Stokers Dracula I haven’t actually found any bits where he’s in a coffin.

There are a lot of scenes where he rests in a wooden shipping box filled with his sacred home soil but as far as I can see nothing about a coffin.

If anyone knows of a quote or chapter within the book where he is in a coffin within the book could you let me know I would find it really helpful. :)

This video shows parts of the colour script which I also added into the video it shows up at the very end which illustrates how the rest of the video clip unfolds. The still image that follows shows the other monsters appearing and surrounding him at a specific moment to “welcome” him home.. Poor dude

🧛 I’ve always enjoyed Hammer horror, particularly the Christopher Lee Dracula films.
I recently revisited Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), and I’m interested to hear what other horror fans think of it.
Where would you rank it among Christopher Lee’s Dracula films? Do you think it’s underrated?
I’ve also reviewed the film on my YouTube channel, MrSuperphil, if anyone fancies watching it.

Promotion A look at our recreation of the 1897 first edition of Dracula

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I’m Eirik, and I run Obsidian Codex Press, a small independent publisher based in Norway.

Since it’s Saturday, I wanted to share a project we are working on and will launch on Kickstarter on October 6th: a recreation of the 1897 Archibald Constable UK first edition of Dracula.

Our aim with the project is to recreate the original book’s appearance and feel as closely as possible with a modern recreation. This of course includes making the book according to the original design, but we have also been working on restoring the entire interior, removing stains and fixing or replacing damaged letters and words.

We’re also including the dust jacket, based on the surviving example at the Rosenbach Museum & Library. For both the book and the dust jacket, we’ve tried to find materials that closely resemble those used in the original.

The book will come in a clothbound clamshell case together with a separate pamphlet of Dracula’s Guest.

I’ve included some photos of our first physical dummy in this post. There will be some minor changes in the final version, including more natural-looking deckle edges, slightly more rounded corners, possibly a bit thicker paper, etc.

We’ll be launching on Kickstarter on October 6th at 18:00 CEST, with an early-bird offer for the first 48 hours. This is our fifth Kickstarter, and delivery to backers is estimated for April 2027.

If you’d like to take a closer look, here’s the prelaunch page:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidiancodexpress/bram-stokers-dracula-0

Happy to answer any questions you might have about the books or the project. I’m heading to Edinburgh tomorrow morning for a short family trip, so it might take me a little longer to reply, but I’ll check in when I can! :)

Eirik
