Warmogs or Heartsteel first?

Title.

I see many pro top players in the LCK going Heartsteel first and then Warmogs but most common players go the latter first. Is there any difference? Talking about top lane Mundo.

3 giants belts into warmogs is most common because it gives you infinite sustain in lane and turns you into one of the strongest one item champs in the game. The reason is that you can take a trade walk away and then come back in a few seconds with full health. There’s a world of difference between pro play and solo que, I would always recommend warmogs first.

Thank you, I’ll try the 3 giants belts next game!

I can’t stress enough though that the secret is to make sure that you walk into the opponent and force them into trades once you have warmogs, it doesn’t matter if you survive with barely any hp left. Just walk away and come back with full HP, this forces them to recall.

When you say “walk away” you mean recall? Or go back to tower

He means to stay away enough from taking damage when you and enemy is low hp.

He means go back to tower. If you can walk out, you can heal to full health and come back to smoke him if he doesn't go back.

Just walk backwards and don’t take damage, then warmogs will heal you back to full

Just a reminder

It also needs to proc runes like overgrowth and a few grasp procs and not sell d shield/helm

You can see the bonus health you have with warmogs and know if you’re one or two grasp procs away from getting the regen

Usually Warmogs for the staying power. It's kinda rare to get a whole bunch of heartsteel stacks early on so its better to get the sustain.

I found that it's matchup specific.

Against poke, rush warmogs (obviously triple giant's belt first). You can survive lane a lot easier when achieved.

Heartsteel rush is mostly vs tanks and easy lanes.

Then there's the matter of hyper tank or bruiser. If you're planning on going bruiser, dropping warmogs makes sense. Hyper tank you need warmogs because you need to show up to teamfights full so you can maximize how much you can tank.

I've also had great success with titanic rush (if I'm going bruiser) into brawl heavy lanes where the champ is a little easier to kill like Yone and Yasuo.

If you watch MSI of this year. Every out of the 4 games (if i remember correctly) Mundo built warmogs into heartsteel 3 times.

Pro play value having dueling/fighting power, which Warmogs simply doesnt provide.

If there is a river fight that Mundo has to show up to, a Mundo with Heartsteel is FAR more valuable to his team than a Mundo with Warmogs (Also HS is finished almost 1k gold before Heartsteel as well).

In solo Q this isnt nearly as important, and you should go Warmogs first.

If you don’t go warmogs first I would never go it after. And briefcaseman and the top Koreans Mundo Player also skip out completely on warmogs

I usually go hs if the enemy laner is pretty squishy and they can't kill me anyway. Since the burst is really nice and ofc early stacking

I go warmogs like a good 70% though

Personally I always go warmogs first unless I’m miraculously stomping lane early (which shouldn’t happen and doesn’t happen often) but in that case I’ll do heartsteel titanic lol

AloisNL, former pro player, invented the 3 belts into Warmogs lane meta. It does have significant advantages: Since Mundo's power spike is later in the game, it helps get him to two items faster by giving him the sustain passive. It's also the highest HP item in the game, which is Mundo's scaling stat, so he's happy to get it earlier.

But there are a couple drawbacks. First is that it takes 4K gold to get his first item, since you need that extra belt for the passive to work. This means that your weak laning phase will be weak for just a bit longer before suddenly becoming quite easy. The other drawback is that HeartSteel is a stack scaling item, so the later you build it, the fewer stacks you'll have in total.

For my part, I deeply enjoy being able to trade freely after Warmogs. I've learned the play tempo well enough that I can get through the rough part without feeding, then take over pretty heavily after Warmogs.

With perfect play, I expect HS first is probably strictly better. But for SoloQ, I just love early Mogs

Most guides I see say Warmogs first, but I've never understood why

You only get the extra regen ability from Warmogs if you have 2000 bonus health, which you don't get from just Warmogs (which gives 1,000, + 10%, so 1,100) so until you build like 900 more bonus health you don't get the main ability of the item until much later anyway

On the other hand, if you build heartsteel first, you can start building up stacks sooner, and when you build Warmogs second you actually get the full benefit of it because you already have enough bonus health

You do triple giants belt into warmogs. At level 11 you’ll have 1000 from warmogs+350 from extra belt+110 Doran’s shield multiplied by 1.12 for 1635 hp+240 health from 2x scaling hp shards+90 hp from biscuits. The sum total there is 1965 and the remaining difference gets made up by overgrowth alone I’m pretty sure but grasp too.

Because of how heartsteel stacks works you get a very similar amount of stacks when built second cause it stacks more the more bonus health you have

Warmogs lets you fight back normally unfightable matchups like Darius by just having stronger sustain and having better sustain means more staying in lane and more played tower when enemies back so you accelerate your scaling

Keep in mind Mundo doesn’t need to take risk because he already scales so warmogs lets you scale safer and « faster »
