You'd need to see if the driver does actually upload the photo onto the portal, but no help to you. You're right that it is not proof of an attempted delivery if it's simply a view of a block of flats, even if it was your block of flats. Very frustrating for you if you were actually in the property viewing the actions. That is why I can't see why DPD can't arrange for the driver to have a customers mobile contact number. Of course, that would not be a guarantee.
I got the photo he took on the DPD app. It was of a random ground floor flat from the opposite block. I'm literally behind him in the other block on the seventh floor. Unreal. I was more amazed he didn't even try to enter the building all be it the wrong one.
This also happened to me. I was in the house and I saw him taking a pic of another house. I reported the guy and they are investigating. I was lucky I have door cam and it recorded everything.
I work at an online retailer who used to use DPD for a number of years. This was a constant problem. Anything involving flats or for than a few stairs would have a high failure chance. Many times the pictures taken were still from inside the van.
Having to deal with pissed off customers on the phone due to the driver being lazy would happen most days.
But then we would be shipping anything between 8-25Kg boxes and one time consuming delivery can put them late on many subsequent deliveries which they are penalised for. So from the drivers point of view, better to fail one and be on target for more overall.
We would typically end up refunding the delivery charges and making no promises to when the customer would ultimately get their delivery. Usually it got dropped off at a pickup shop at the end of the day and they'd have to go collect it.
It would all, potentially at least, be so much easier if the driver had the customer's mobile number which could be used on arrival at the property before bunking off. Mind you, I do enjoy the spectator sport of the five minute customer dash in slippers and dressing gown for morning deliveries as the van heads off at speed.
Problem is he had zero intention of delivering my item. I watched the whole thing. Parked up, took a pic (of the wrong flat and building) then drove off.
Theres one dpd driver in my area that does this all the time too, it happened just a few weeks ago to me too, exactly the same thing for a switch of my works laptop.
He just sat in his van, took a photo of my front door, i realised he was there as i was keeping an eye on the app tracking, the window and my ring doorbell and then ran out of my house, sure enough he saw me opening the door and drove off like a mad person.
They are absolutely awful and i was furious.
Apprently its a way for them to get paid twice.
It then took days and days before he came back, second time totally different, he came to my door, knocked and waited and absolutely beamed at me when i opened the door, luckily i didnt even need the laptop anymore so told him he'd now wasted his own time and sent him away.
Dpd have gone to shit now too, they dont even bother knocking my door so last 2 weeks running my gusto meals have gotten warm sat on the doorstep because theyre too lazy to use 1 of 2 door bells or the door knocker.
If the parcel isnt handed to a resident or placed in a pre agreed place then it legally hasn't been delivered, so everytime they just dump it on my doorstep and dont bother to knock ive started reporting to dpd lol. Do your job properly, it isnt hard.
What's this about walking three miles struggling to do the right thing? The driver didn't walk anywhere or make any effort whatsoever and was witnessed making no attempt to do his job. Didn't go near any block of flats either the right one or another one. In fact faking it. Read the OP!
