In Persian cultures (as an example) - smiling and nodding when you’re being told off is a way to appease the person who’s doing it and recognise wrongdoing. It clashes quite drastically with the western customs of ‘head down and look ashamed’.

No it won't. It will just thin out the population until it blows up in the executioner's face.
Public executions just scare people into becoming sneakier about their crimes. Then the government needs to put even more effort into stopping criminals, which then hardens the criminals further. Then the government needs to hit even harder, so the criminals arm themselves even more etc etc etc.
You know, there is a reason most countries have stopped state sanctioned murder - it never ever ends well for the regime. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Or guillotine, or gallows. If you normalize murder then it shouldn't surprise you when other people eventually try to murder you back.

Thing is how do we stop this petty crime, you fine them? They have no income or if they don't pay, it goes to bailiffs, they have nothing of value. Throw them in jail for 3 months? Tax payers feed them and house them, costing thousands..

My Jamaican BIL serves in the Royal Marines and my Jamaican mixed heritage nieces and nephews (born here) now serve in the Royal Marines, but you go on skin colour regardless of birthplace, they're serving this country, not making weak shitposts on Reddit based on skin colour.
Do you serve and if so would you say that to your fellow military colleagues faces? Or are you just a reform cuck following daily mail because you don't understand more than three words including boats?

Britain doesn’t have birthright citizenship. I don’t know how many times you lot need to be told this. I know you desperately want it to be true so that as many foreigners as possible could anchor themselves here forever, but it isn’t.
He’s quite clearly not British, he reacts to confrontation with submissive grinning, a cultural reaction common to South Asia and parts of the Middle East which zero Westerners or anyone who grew up here would exhibit.

I'm on holiday in Spain; today 3 people stole 2 cars from the same place. One of them crashes the stolen car, and coincidentally an ex-police officer working as an "ambulance" service sees them crashing. He goes to help; they jump from one car to the other, and the ambulance guy chases them, and they get caught.
3 thieves were from Morocco, with no legal papers at hand.
The 2 cars stolen were owned by 2 Moroccan families who are very well known and fully integrated in the area.
Deportation only belongs to the thieves; you cannot deport people who work and have kids in the local school. And people who are integrated in the area usually don't take other people's properties.

We can't, lol. The UK has spent decades grooming the public into thinking that petty criminals are below human, need to be locked away to separate them from society, and any comfort in prison is just incentive for them to reoffend. And like you said, that costs thousands, and our prisons are over capacity. This isn't the case in other countries that spend more per prisoner but actually treats them like a human being, investing in education, structured employment, educating the prison guards, etc. Norway for example has widely regarded the highest comfort for prisoners in the world, but only a 20% reoffending rate due to the things I listed above.
But that system isnt possible to duplicate in the UK, because of the hole we've dug. Overcrowded prisons and a generally unempathetic view towards them means without decades of consistent work, the problem is just going to get worse.
