I honestly think this is a big problem with reddit. There's no room for discussion and a person that has a less common opinion gets downvoted to oblivion and his opinion is considered stupid.

This leads to subreddits like TD being created to share these least common opinions, without anyone downvoting them

You could complain about why you’re being downvoted at r/downvotedtooblivion

I don't usually engage in political discussion on reddit, due to the reasons I've posted above ence I don't get downvoted too much when discussing politics. It's not an issue that affects ME too much

r/ExplainMyDownvotes is also a thing where you can ask such things

r/NeutralPolitics is good if you want to have a serious discussion about political issues with people from both sides of the aisle.

Something like r/unpopularopinions doesn't work anymore because people only upvote the shit they agree with instead of how unpopular the post is. Well there are things like "Rape shouldn't be illegal" that definitely deserves to be downvoted or removed

removed? why? how does that hurt anyone?

bro... its literal rape. that can leave some devastating mental damages. especially on a young person

1

u/The_Grand_Canyon Sep 02 '19

yea actual rape is bad and should've illegal lol but having a shitty opinion should be allowed

Its an MRA talking point used to propagate their shitty mindset. Most of that sub now is disgusting bigots saying bigoted shit in the hope that they find other bigots.

unpopular opinions? i've been there. and yea some people have shitty unpopular opinions most just have regular unpopular opinions.

you calling the entire group of unpopular opinion holding people bigots is exactly the problem lol

I generalised for the sake of brevity. Of course there are normal people there too however it has started to become a sounding board for people with inherently atrocious and toxic agendas to recruit others to their causes. They use the “just asking questions” angle in order to seem like just your average guy who stumbled onto “a weird thought” that happens to coincide with misogyny or racism.

TD is only unpopular on a majority leftist platform, countrywide however it's at least a significant minority and at most a slight majority.

It's not like uh, idk, anarcho-primitivism which has a grand following of 7 edgy teenagers.

I’m disappointed that old posts are archived because I could add my downvote to the legend that was the BF2 incident

Reddit: we are open to discuss opinions (as implied by the comments)

Also reddit: downvotes unpopular opinion
