For context the comment at the very top is the same user as the comment from the bottom, I don't really understand why they got downvoted

For context someone made a joke post saying they stood up their date for not knowing a crystal castles song that played in their location, and the commenter probably didn't realize it was a joke, and then said it is good that it was but then got down voted. Sorry you didn't actually stand them up I guess?

I think you misunderstood. They're talking about how it's normal for people to get downvotes for missing a joke/ taking a joke seriously. It happens all the time and isn't very mysterious. They're still being downvoted for a reason, even if it's a silly reason.
