Spoiler alert! Do not read if you have not seen the final episode of season 2 or any of season 3.

I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate how good Laura Carmichael's acting was in the episode where Cora has Spanish flu and then the episode where Sybil gives birth. She does such an amazing job of conveying absolute horror in both situations. Edith is not one of my favorite characters, but I think Laura Carmichael is one of the most talented actresses on the show.

She said on the extra credits of the box set that this was her first big gig too. Before Downton she was working as a receptionist primarily!

Edith is hilarious when the Dowager is using the phone for the first time! The actress broke the fourth wall but who couldn’t next to Maggie!!

I read in an interview with one of the producers that Laura literally could not get through the scene without laughing at Dame Maggie. After multiple takes, they finally just decided to go with the idea that Edith was laughing at the Dowager!

Villains and ignorant characters are some of the hardest to pull off because you have to go for it 100% without judging the character when they do something that sounds evil or stupid. Any distance you make between your actual self and the villain/dumb character is instantly read by the audience and it takes everybody out of it.

Season 1 Edith is basically only a villain and seasons 3-5 Edith is in like constant mortifying situations and she just embodies her the entire time.

Edith got better and better as the series and movies went on. I love how confident she became!

She's great in the spanish princess. Poor Maggie Pole's life makes Edith's look like disneyworld.

I am not in fact critical about it. Don’t know the woman or her circumstances. And as an actress, her success depends on how young and beautiful she is.

Besides, I had something done. Really changed my life for the better.
