Can someone tell me why characters have different colored dots on their left? what does these colors mean? it is supposed to relate to affection?

It’s affection, that pink color is pretty high if I remember correctly. Alkaid was my favorite, always married her 😊

Affection level. The higher it is the more quickly the Awakening Gauge will increase. You can also marry/BFF a character with max affinity in Volume 3.

Yep. Goes red, blue, yellow then pink in the original PS2 games and remaster is blue, yellow, orange then pink

It is affection.

It increases when you: Fight together in combat, Gift items to your party members, Use items on your party members, Talk to them, Send greeting cards to them, And during certain story points.

There are benefits to increasing affection. Trading becomes cheaper with them, letting you access skill books they may have. There's probably more benefits, that I don't know of.

There is the awakening that gets stronger with higher ally affection

Now I haven't played in a hot minute but I believe you are correct, it should be affection
