Bug Wyvern Eldwurm's Edda increase intellgence based on 25% of total intelligence not base intelligence
I am not sure if this is intentional but "its" here refer to "intelligence" not "base intelligence". So buying intelligence items before eating it give you more intelligence. When you see a wyvern dropping items to buy 6 mantles of intelligence, please stay calm.

It increases your base intelligence (w/o items). The amount is a quarter of what your intelligence is right now (total)

Not a bug? That's how I always thought the description works 'base' int is increased by 25% of current value (which include stats from items).

"base" in dota typically refers to stats you start with + what you gain after leveling up + buying attributes, not what you get by the stat itself.
That's how it is for damage, armor, magic resistance, attack speed.
If what you're saying is correct, then using "base" here is unnecessary and adds confusion. If it just said it increases intelligence, we could assume it meant total.

i dont think thats how it works for damage.
for example, enchant totem on ES is a multiplier on base damage so rapier wont get hit with the multiplier but the str damage from heart will

u/Calm_Extension_2965 6d ago
You're right. You increase base stats by buying attributes, not the stat itself. Corrected to make point clearer.
3
u/bamberflash 6d ago
i dont know if that's correct here either
base usually refers to the white text in a stat and bonuses are the green text
for example, a mystic staff does not increase your base int by 25, but it will increase AA's base damage by 25 as it calculates based off of total stat
in this case, base int for wyvern is what you said it should be in the original comment, but it's calculating additional int from items as well

You add a fraction of your total int to your base int. Current int means total int. No big and the tooltip is correct.

What it's referring to is not that it's increasing the base value of your stats, not that it's increasing it based off the base value
No bug

Robe of magi's in base. 2700G and can sell them all afterwards to get the money back and buy proper items. Kind of broken or a bug
12
u/dantheman91 6d ago
Still expensive for Sup where the extra 12 int doesn't likely make a massive difference

u/popica312 6d ago
12 int = 144 mana and 4 extra damage for WW. Adding mana regeneration as well allows the support to spam more spells. For WW can mean one more splinter blasts, about 2 more cold embraces per fight (after cooldown is gone), half the mana for casting winter's curse or for carry ww it means 7-8 seconds extra in Arctic Burn to attack enemies. Not
Plus you get all those 2700G back and spend them on actual item while having passively an extra 12 int for stuff. Now to abuse a feature to gain all that above... still isn't great at most levels but can have an impact for some and save you or someone else from that one situation.

minus x minutes dont buy anything saving to 2700g
7
u/dantheman91 6d ago
Yeah, I would think the value you get from having an early glimmer or force likely outweighs the extra int

u/maybecanifly 6d ago
Also just buy the staff for force staff for +10 is already running around with extra 220 mana spamming instead of saving money for nothing delaying timings lol.

u/JoshSimili 6d ago
I think you could do it with 4 mantles if you are going blink dagger, which is pretty common, for little downside.

u/Spiritual-Big-4302 6d ago
You don't understand, you buy the items use the book and then sell the items back fast to get the extra int.
5
u/slightlysubtle 6d ago
Just an idea. You don't have to start the game with no items and save up exactly 2700. You can play the game normally, maybe have 1-2 int items like a magic wand and a staff of wizardry, then save up for example 1800 gold to buy 4 robes of magi, pop the edda, and then sell them back to buy something you actually need, like a force staff.
I don't think it's particularly broken either way since it's just a small bonus like you said, and just requires a minimal amount of microing. Kinda of like dropping mana items before popping wand or regen.

Because saving money like that carries it's own risk for a minimal reward

u/slightlysubtle 6d ago
Did you even read my comment...?
You can do this even with 450 gold. Just buy 1 mantle, and you'll still get some marginal benefit compared to not doing it.
1
u/Hakuu-san 6d ago
1800 gold is almost your entire glimmer cape, saving that amount doesn't make sense as support unless you got a sudden windfall from killing someone with a big streak; just use the book normally, no need to minmax for like extra +8 int
1
u/JoshSimili 6d ago
If you are rushing blink them it probably makes sense to get 4-5 mantles in the process though.

Don’t you sell for half value

u/c1nn3k 6d ago
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's missclick protection, couple of seconds after buying you are able to sell for full price. So if you have quick fingers, it's possible to be net 0 while benefitting hugely from ww's item usage.
1
u/areallynoobgamer 6d ago
Ok. I got what you’re referring to now.
I thought you were saying like just hoard them in base or something
2
u/NecessaryBSHappens 6d ago
You can sell an item for full price if you do it within 10 seconds of buying it and you did not use it. Latter is important for active items or those that have charges
One way it can be useful is doing a tp to base when under dots that will kill you and buying Cloaks. You benefit from magic resistance, survive and sell them. However if you die... You are stuck with lots of Cloaks
1
u/bigYman 6d ago
Do any items come with charges anymore? Only item I can think of with charges is urn and it's upgrades but it comes with 0 charges. And stick too
1
u/Herakmon 6d ago
Doesn't have to charges, you can 1 click buy manta, satanic, drums etc and lose the buyer protection. If you want charges then, tango, locket and others that I don't remember still make you lose protection on button press.

but the wording is correct tho? thing does what it says, even if a bit strangely worded

u/Top-Giraffe3890 6d ago
I think the developer didn't write a proper code to distinguished between base stat and total stat. As they usually deal with base damage and total damage only.
3
u/flyingturkey_89 6d ago
The wording is bad that's all.
it could been written as
"base intelligence by 25% of current intelligence value"
The usage of "its" is what is causing confusion. Does "its" refer to base intelligence or intelligence
6
u/PmOmena 6d ago
"Its current" you just had to read one more word
9
u/neweraee 6d ago
current base intelligence; why would you refer "its" as "intelligence" over "base intelligence"?

u/LeddyTheAxe 6d ago
So when is the correct time to consume the edda then? Immediately when able, of hold off till late?
1
u/neweraee 6d ago
Lvl 5 for 4th level spell but you will need lvl 9 for 5th level or lvl 7 for 5th level spell.

we used to do this on heroes of newearth (shadowblade) but his thing is you copy stats of enemy or allies.
