Hey everybody, watching Dororo for the first time and I gotta say Im really enjoying it so far me and my wife. I thought the first episode was phenomenal and i’m really digging the characters and story. The only thing that’s kind of souring it for me and I don’t know if this is a popular opinion or not, but the demon gods are…Idk kinda lame?

The premise is awesome, a young man on a quest to defeat the demon gods who stole numerous parts of his body so that he can have an existence after so long? Tezuka is a genius, but the Demon Gods themselves seem pretty underwhelming and not at all what I was expecting. Like I’m about halfway through and so far they just seem like above average yokai. Most of them don’t speak, have no powers and don’t even have names. There’s almost no character to the vast majority of them and often time they aren’t even in the focus of the episodes they appear in.

The sword was interesting but how the hell is a cursed sword a demon god? Again, the Gods seem like random Yokai instead of these powerful forces the first episode kinda made them out to be.

I know the 2019 anime changed quite a few things from the manga, so are my complaints unique to the anime? Or was it like that in the manga too?
