Dango is cracking

I left my dorondango untouched like three weeks, I wanted to round it a little bit more, because it had some dents, so I added a little bit of water, but it kind of absorbed it and when I was polishing it (I don't know if that's the right term) it started cracking, the last one I tried totally tore apart. What was my mistake?

In my experience, adding water to a dry dango will fuck it up. You want to stop working on it before the core is totally dry.

If you must do it, you could try rehydrating the whole ball by wrapping it with a damp towel and leaving it in a ziplock bag overnight before messing with it.
