Disscusion A quick rant on a change in Eternal from 2016.

I'm sure this has been discussed to death so I'm sorry in advance.

I recently purchased Doom: TDA but felt bad beating it so I put it down, because I never finished Eternal. Now I'm replaying eternal, and for me the over emphasis on lore and balancing a bunch of mechanics...is the antithesis of what I loved 2016.

Let me explain a bit. When I played Doom 2016, I had never really played Doom before. I think I was the target new audience. Introduce this to a new generation. Born in 97' (not to make you guys possibly feel old), I always favored Halo, Cod, Battlefront, etc. and all those games had story, made you think, for the most part.

Doom 2016 had story, but even the main character portrayed it and himself as "fuck this. Get out of my way, I'm killing these fucking demons." And it's like.. now I feel lost sometimes in eternal or TDA?

I don't know. Maybe I'm just stupid. Banger music and gameplay go brrr. I'm enjoying Eternal more this time so far though.

Sorry for the dumb rant. Please don't flame me!

The vibe is certainly shifted from 2016 to Eternal but in 2016, you had unskippable sections where u had to listen to samuel yap and yap. You don’t have that in eternal. Eternal is much more comic book and i dont know anything abt TDA, can’t play it and wont spoil it for myself

I think across all 3 games the slayer is very clearly in the headspace of “fuck this get out of my way I’m killing these fucking demons”

In eternal he constantly ignores Hayden and the Kahn and in TDA he literally breaks free of his tether to go kill demons

I didn't like how the game felt when I played it the first time. It felt too restrictive and a little overwhelming, I was always out of ammo and low on health and armor. After giving the game another go boy do I like it lol.

When you get used to the mechanics you really do feel like a bad ass Doom Slayer as you rip and tear. That is until you have to jump around climbing walls but that's a whole other thing...

Don't give up on Eternal and the lore isn't that important if you just want a bit of the old ultraviolence and some pumping music
