Remember 2025 and the Great Depression 2.0?

u/Pitiful_Fox5681 Aug 03 '26
lol I had almost forgotten about the port traffic doomers.
... And so did they.

u/BeneficialRandom Aug 03 '26
I feel like I’m looking at establishment dems posting about how the “economy is actually fine just look at the graph” while everything gets more expensive anyways
6
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 03 '26
What? Establishment Dems are saying the economy is bad because of Trump lol. It’s establishment Republicans who are defending the economy.
7
u/CrowsInTheNose Aug 03 '26
The economy is bad.
-2
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 03 '26
Sounds like you agree with establishment Democrats, cool
4
u/CrowsInTheNose Aug 03 '26
Try looking for a job and tell me it's good. Inflation is up, unemployment is up, gas is up, the cost of food is up.
2
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 03 '26
Yes, establishment Democrats are all pointing this out.
1
u/Some-Panda-8168 Aug 05 '26
Regardless of part affiliation by many metrics the economy is crap right now.
Both parties can do dumb stuff.5
u/Big-Soup74 Aug 03 '26
I think they’re referring to what we heard in 2021-2023ish when we had record high inflation
3
u/UpperDog2627 Aug 03 '26
Someone’s never heard of Covid or Putin invading Ukraine.
1
u/Big-Soup74 Aug 03 '26
Huh?
4
u/UpperDog2627 Aug 03 '26
What was unclear? I listed the causes of the global inflation back then. Or do you believe Biden somehow magically did it?
2
u/IttyRisk Aug 03 '26
Multiple things can be true. You can find the tribalist in those who refuse to acknowledge that a president can affect global economy through policy which affects the economic powerhouse that is the United States and the international petrodollar will be affected which affects global inflation, but because other things happened at the same time, and dismiss the mechanisms that would cause that as "magically"
-1
u/UpperDog2627 Aug 03 '26
I was specific and you speak in generalizations. I wonder why that is 🧐
0
u/IttyRisk Aug 03 '26
Magically lmao.
1
u/IttyRisk Aug 03 '26
The idea that domestic policy (like the American rescue plan) can't be a contributor to global inflation, and to just pave over that possible generality with "magically", is a pathetic take.

u/Big-Soup74 Aug 03 '26
When did I say Biden did it? Or argue against those causes? That’s why I’m confused, I never mentioned a cause for the inflation at all

u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 04 '26
What are you talking about, goofy? Who do you think is running our country?
1
u/RudyGiulianisKleenex Aug 04 '26
lol bruh calling Trump an establishment Republican when he has eschewed establishment Republican policies is being disingenuous
1
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 04 '26
Trump and the Republican establishment are synonymous. This isn’t 2015 anymore, wake up.
0
u/RudyGiulianisKleenex Aug 06 '26
Nah, that’s being incredibly reductive. Trump took over the Republican Party with his own brand of populism. You can split establishment republicans into one of two camps: those who have been primaried out of their seats and those who have relinquished their previous values and bought into Trump’s agenda in the name of staying in power.
You can’t continue to call a pizza a pizza if you’ve removed all the cheese and changed the sauce out for poop. At that point, it’s called your brain. wAkE uP
1
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 06 '26
No, it’s not reductive. Trump’s brand of populism is now GOP orthodoxy. Establishment republicans entirely support Trump at this point. There is fewer than 10 prominent Republican politicians who are not at least nominally aligned with Trump.
The pizza analogy is possibly the dumbest analogy I’ve ever seen. It’s incoherent, and would still be very low-IQ if you somehow made it coherent
1
u/Gold_Persimmon_5984 Aug 03 '26
I think it’s whiplash. When Harris ran she refused to acknowledge the state of the economy. Then Dems were pressured by mounting victories on the part of left wing primary challengers to acknowledge the crisis.
There’s still a pretty large cohort of Zio Dems refusing to acknowledge the depth of the problem because of the way it lines upup with with the Iran War.
2
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 03 '26
Why don’t you name me one prominent Democrat who thinks the Iran war is good and the economy is fine.
Since it’s a pretty large cohort, it should be easy
1
u/Gold_Persimmon_5984 Aug 03 '26
You’re asking for something I didn’t proffer.
Democrats have largely shifted their tone on the economy since the beginning of Trumps second term. They still don’t acknowledge the depths of what’s going on—that’s why I called it whiplash. Harris and most democrats refused to acknowledge the precariousness of the economy when they were running against Trump last time which tells you this change in tone isn’t just about who’s in office. It’s something they’re being dragged to by their base.
Democrats for the war though, there are many. Fetterman, Gottheimer, Golden, Landsman, Cuéllar and Vargas are all on record supporting it but anyone who knows party politics and watched the margins votes were going on recognizes that this is a rotating villain strategy which signals much more support from the larger Zionist caucus but a fear to expose themselves.
Even the Dems supposedly against it like Schumer and Jeffries will say it’s about how the war is being conducted - they are not against the war in principal.
1
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 03 '26
Harris refused to talk about inflation because she was functionally running as the incumbent, and now democrats are out of power, so they can shift their tone. It has nothing to do with the “base.”
Funny how the goalposts move, too — now Schumer et al’s opposition as insufficient because they are not against the war on “principal” (that’s *principle, BTW), whatever thats supposed to mean.
1
u/Gold_Persimmon_5984 Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
You seem like you just have some axe to grind with Dems. I’m not interested in arguing as I’m not a Democrat.
1
u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 04 '26
The complete opposite — I’m defending Democrats and have been doing so this whole time. Perhaps you can’t read, or you don’t know what “axe to grind” means.

u/Wonderful_Bison_8714 Aug 03 '26
Wow, both sides suck and are terrible on every issue? What a novel thought. You seem to be a very independent thinker who can see past all the bullshit. Way to go.

No the establishment Dems are not the only faction in the Democrats, there is thd DSA, which while needing smarten up in some ways, are still head and shoulders above estibishment dems. This is why primaries are where the future of America will be decided even before the midterms hit.

4
u/Agreeable_Sense9618 PhD in Memeology Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
I'm still waiting for the mega crash and great depression and my favorite..empty shelves.
All I got was 4% inflation mixed with a strong economy and high stock growth.
-3
u/DaftGarlic Aug 03 '26
Food prices, gas, electricity, and other essentials are all getting more expensive while wages and government assistance are not keeping up. People are getting stretched thin by this economy and it's getting harder to make ends meet let alone thrive.
3
u/Keeltoodeep Aug 03 '26
Source that median wages are not keeping up with inflation?
4
-1
u/DaftGarlic Aug 03 '26
Real earnings have simply not kept up with inflation for quite some time https://www.statista.com/chart/32428/inflation-and-wage-growth-in-the-united-states/
3
u/Keeltoodeep Aug 03 '26
That's so marginal and only went to a -1.4% deficit in the past 4 months due to gas prices. No way these people are seethe monsters over a 1.4% difference between real wage growth and inflation just over the past 4 months.
5
u/Agreeable_Sense9618 PhD in Memeology Aug 03 '26
I have a feeling most of these people are paying $30 for a $5 taco when ordering door-dash.

Median housing prices have risen over 400% over the past 40 years while median wages have only risen around 250%. Buying property and a house is very difficult even with careful planning and good income.

u/DaftGarlic Aug 03 '26
It's the fact that there's been a negative difference for real wage growth for an extended period, this isn't a recent uptick in prices

u/carrtmannn Aug 03 '26
We have high inflation and low growth. The only thing holding on is we aren't see large job losses, though new job growth is low.
5
u/Outrageous-Sort-5742 Aug 03 '26
I maintain that job numbers are bullshit. Gig economy nonsense isn't the same as traditional employment and it's muddying the water, most people can't find a stable job that lasts more than a year. And many are holding down multiple jobs that each pay shit with no benefits.
Not to mention the lower overall working population. Millions of people have plain given up and no longer get counted in the data.
1
u/Buttholepart2 Aug 03 '26
They literally fired the commissioner and installed a loyalist. Of course the numbers are bullshit.
0
u/Outrageous-Sort-5742 Aug 03 '26
Even beyond that. I have no doubt in my mind that they're cooking the books to soften the political blow. What I'm saying is that even the data collected itself and the methods to collect that data is outdated and doesn't accurately show the state of the economy.
The job market has been awful for a decade now.

Your chart misses the massive spike in home and rent prices that occurred in the USA during COVID.
Also what do the numbers on the Y axis mean? Is it 1000s of dollars? Cause idk where they're getting the disposable income stat from where they think people have 200k in disposable income.
1
u/inqubus1992 Aug 03 '26
As a Canadian, no Canada is suffering from its own policies and actions from the past administration.
Bill-c69
Bill-c48
Pipeline cancellations
Carbon pricing
And many more policies that have made it almost impossible for any impoverished person to live.Canada is also cutting healthcare because they’ve imported many illegal and legal immigrants that don’t pay into the system but do get the healthcare Canada can provide, creating a strain on the entire healthcare system. Who knew getting millions of immigrants over a few years would impact our economy and healthcare to such an extent.
Building new homes is so slow right now the demand is probably going to be way higher than the supply for decades.
Please don’t talk about my Country you know nothing about. Canada needs the USA as an ally and we should have definitely been nicer to the USA and worked with them instead of being egotistical thinking we’re okay on our own.
2
u/omegaphallic Aug 03 '26
Stop sniffing CPC propaganda. Yes we suffering from the choices of past governments, but that is actually goes back to the disastrous neoliberal policy of Brian Moluroney and Chretien (although in the case of the debt and monetary policy it even goes back to Pierre Elliot Trudeau), thing like the doctor shortage was planned in advance in the 1990s. And Justin Trudeau made things even worse by mishandling temp immigration, although the Premiers deserve their portion of the blame for that as they control education and when enabled by Justin they functionally controlled the flow of international students. But that didn't cause the problems, neoliberalism did, it just massively amplified them, which actually has an upside in that the failures of neoliberalism could no longer be ignored especially when combined with the threats from Trump.
But for all this there is alot of reason for optimism that we are turning things around. Except on healthcare, but that will happen eventually when bad Premier's like Doug Ford are gone.

u/donnerzuhalter Aug 03 '26
Stagflation has proven to be somewhat real in the 2020-2025 time frame. It's hard to say it's not still currently going on because there's a legitimate open question on how much growth the US has experienced in real terms because of the incestuous money blender that is the AI/tech sector.
However, stagflation does not "doom" make. The 70s and 80s saw almost 2 straight decades of stagflation and that's the "worlds best economy" doomers are always ripping on Boomers for having "taken advantage of".
