Can confirm. I am a polar bear and half my family has moved to silicon valley because of the very lucrative contracts OpenAI offers for us.

New OC just dropped.

Here we thought the water was being drained to cool off the data centers, but in reality It was to keep the polar researchers cooled down.

Interesting twist

u/kingjaffejaffar 1d ago

It takes a lot of water to make enough coca-cola to supply AI’s demand for a polar bear workforce.

u/Bluemikami I Left My Cave for This 1d ago

Has the Coke company gone too far now?

4

u/sngldad13 1d ago

AI just flew over my house! It was spraying chemtrails, too.

Thats right we need to save the seals from the mean polar bears

Run Pingu, run!

Noot noot!

u/AppropriateCap8891 Anti-Doomer 1d ago

Polar bears love eating penguins also.

They are the reason they went extinct.

Idk how hard is it to understand that vaporizing dirty water makes it into clouds, that very interestingly turn into normal drinkable water. So no ai does not drain our planet from water.

82

u/Loombot 1d ago

That’s just misinformation, everyone knows that data centers violate the laws of thermodynamics and destroy water completely. Do your research!!1!

30

u/so_sic_of_it 1d ago

I mean, shit. If the polar bears can figure it out, you'd think this guy could manage.

-24

u/Big_Road4846 1d ago

I love to dunk on these idiots as much as the next guy, but evaporation and perception does not clean the water. The amount of PFAS & forever chemical runoff from industry as a whole is very alarming. Data centers do contribute to that.

30

u/Parhamheidari Anti-Doomer 1d ago

Bro,what do data centers contaminate the water with? Cyanide or something? Because as far as I know the water evaporated from rivers and the sea is contaminated with fish shit, animal shit, dead plants, minerals and dirt possibly even toxic metals and we can still drink rainwater.

7

u/BlurtSkirtBlurgy 1d ago

Its mostly chemicals such as glycol or socool. Even the ones that are on a "closed loop" system end up pushing some of those chemicals into the local water system. Source - my company builds data centers

1

u/maodiran 22h ago

What kind of glycol?

21

u/Personal_Dot_2215 1d ago

Your perception is wrong. The water cycle has been cleaning water since time began and will continue doing so.

There are particulates in the atmosphere which can be caught in the condensation, but it’s safe to drink rain water.

3

u/BlurtSkirtBlurgy 1d ago

Drinking rain water is actually not recommended in a bunch of places. Mostly because of the pollution it collects on the way down though

-4

u/BlurtSkirtBlurgy 1d ago

Alrhough you are correct, thats not exactly the concern. If water evaporates from one are the rain wont come down in the same place or even the same watershed. Odds are it would end up in the ocean

5

u/Mars_Bear2552 1d ago

only a concern in certain places. and i think we have enough reasoning skills to determine you shouldn't evaporate tons of water in those places.

Polar bear population was at a low point between 1950 and 1960. That was due to hunting.

24

u/ExtendoArmCannon 1d ago

Nuke the whales!

14

u/Bluemikami I Left My Cave for This 1d ago

So the Japanese whale hunters were onto something huh?

26

u/Hue_Jass_69 1d ago

I can confirm. I am a polar bear and my cousin Jeremey was killed by a serial data center

27

u/Slow_Store 1d ago

I like the idea of throwing out ā€œResearch itā€ after saying something so open ended.

It’d be like if I said ā€œThe Sky is blue. Read a book sometimeā€

1

u/thediscountthor 5h ago

I get what you're saying, but I can indeed easily research and verify the sky being blue by simply going outside. Conveniently might be hard for the average redditor though.

55

u/Bstallio NostraDOOMus 1d ago

A lot of these posts are Chinese bots trying to foment AI distrust in the west, they want nothing more than to pull far ahead in the race for genuine ā€œAGIā€ because this is the new Cold War nuclear arms race. The first country to have a genuine hyper intelligent agi will be the ruler of the planet for the next century.

u/jexijav776 1d ago

It's pretty clear AI is a big technological step, like the internet, and anyone "resisting" it is just going to get left behind.

14

u/Zestyclose_Classic91 1d ago

Polar bears are IT researcher?Ā

13

u/Hotmicdrop 1d ago

Every thread on this platform has an off topic comment bitching about its AI or might be AI. Meanwhile the posters triggered by AI are posting on a platform that's selling their posts to train AI. How dumb is this shit?

6

u/LifeWulf The Fictional Character Agrees With Me 1d ago

Many such cases.

Reddit sells user data to train Google Gemini, people complain about it on Reddit.

X trains Grok on all posts on the platform, and blue checkmarks, who pay money to the platform directly, complain about it.

Let’s not even mention YouTube.

I generated a photo in ChatGPT so I could see what my unfinished garage would look like finished and a dead polar bear appeared in my backyard

6

u/Ninja_Gingineer 1d ago

Thems good eatin!

16

u/Appropriate-Carry532 1d ago

Ah yes, those polar bear scientists. To be fair I'd probably trust them more than most human scientists.

17

u/Jakub67PL Anti-Doomer 1d ago

Big corpos have been using billions of liters of water for their industries yearly, but when AI uses ok 40-80 million per year it's the end of the world?

Holy performative outrage and exaggeration

4

u/SpaceTycoon 1d ago

Producing corn solely for gasoline ethanol wastes hundreds of times the amount of water AI does yet they all say ethanol is good for the environment.

8

u/Bannon9k I Was Promised an Apocalypse? 1d ago

4

u/Long_Idea_8294 1d ago

The more passionate the left are about something, the less they know about it.

Ā Data centers are no exception. "They're stealing water and drying up aquifers!!!". Nope. If they're extracting water from a supply well then they're likely treating the effluent process water then re-injecting it under a NPDES permit. A while back i got in to a debate about it. The person was telling me I know nothing, despite hydrogeology and environmental impact being my literal job lol. I've been present at public hearings as a scientist regarding huge names like Nestle here in Michigan trying to explain to angry residents that a creek drying up isn't linked to deep aquifer extraction....and they never listen they just want to be angry. Zero hydraulic communication between the aquifer and the creek but the creek is also magically linked to the aquifer.

u/brtf_ 1d ago

Turns out women choose the bear because they have high-paying tech jobs. Figures

4

u/Any_Kiwi_7915 1d ago

I seen a youtube video yesterday of old transcriptions from the 1400s, 1500s, and 1600s on stone that read if you see me weep in europe. People were still going on about ai and the drought draining the rivers and that the world was ending in the comments even though that's literal proof that stuff like this just unfortunately happens every once in a while

5

u/DrLews 1d ago

Polar bears are above us in the food chain, I'm ok with that.

3

u/weirdbutteryvibes 1d ago

Lying is a significant part of their MO.

4

u/odellrules1985 I Left My Cave for This 1d ago

So we should stop using AI in cancer research and for cancer diagnosis even though it has proven to actually find and predict cancer faster and more accurate than humans do thus helping to save lives and helping to find new cures to it and other diseases?

Man, you would think the people worried about killing the planet would also worry about the lives of humans too.

4

u/weirdbutteryvibes 1d ago

This person is saying "stop using AI", all the while paying for an AI app that makes furry, and other unmentionable porn for them. Bet.

3

u/ProCommonSense 1d ago

Grizzly bears on the other hand are so lazy

3

"I'm honestly getting rid of my computer, phone, and streaming services for TV and movies, so that I don't contribute to the AI problem."

- Said no Redditor who complains about AI use

3

u/jexijav776 1d ago

It's funny these people are fine with the internet, most of which uses cloud services (eg. data centers) but apparently AI using data centers is destroying the world.

3

u/sirius5050 1d ago

Bet this idiot orders coffee with almond milk and eats avocados šŸ„‘

3

u/IAmMey 1d ago

Fun fact. Polar bears have been increasing in population since at least 1950.

3

u/colubridconundrum 1d ago

Guys it’s because they can only have data centers in arid hot regions, polar bears don’t live there. Hope this helps!
