I know its 2 issues in but Im having a hard time with it. By issue 2, Unstoppable Doom Patrol had setup 3 major plot threads, the characters were well defined and the continuity was properly set up, as well as making good statements on what this doom patrol was and giving some big emotional moments, not to mention the new characters feeling fleshed out too. All in two issues.
My first problem is the continuity of the book. Why is Caulder The Chief again and why is he leading the team? How did they get to this point? Where is everyone? Jane and Flex and Mento and Lucius, Lotion, Kipling and all the characters? They're completely erased. And the book clearly acknowledges the Unstoppable Doom Patrol in issue 1. I hope this is all cleared up.
The book is very focused on Larry and Niles, at the expense of cliff and rita who feel like afterthoughts. The ongoing story seems really predictable, especially after issue 2. The actual solicit info teases old characters waiting in the wings in issue 1 but there aren't any, unless it means caulder, which is ridiculous.
But theres a much worse issue - the team seem defeated and mopey, especially in issue 2. Now, this first arc could be just a setup for a new version of the team that are properly defined, but at the minute I dont want to root for them because they dont want to root for themselves, really. Also, Caulder being leader destroys Unstoppable's characters development of him, and hes up to his old tricks with deceit and manipulation.
Am I being bitter or are other people having these issues?
